Responsibilities
As a Drafter/Shop Drawing Specialist in the cabinet and custom millwork industry, you will play a crucial role in the design and production process, transforming conceptual ideas into precise and detailed shop drawings. This position requires a keen eye for detail, proficiency in CAD software, and the ability to manage the shop drawing process effectively. You will also collaborate with external drafters and cross-functional teams to ensure the successful execution of projects while adhering to industry standards.
Key responsibilities include:
- Shop Drawing Creation: Produce detailed shop drawings based on project specifications, architectural drawings, and client requirements.
- CAD Proficiency: Utilize CAD software to create accurate 2D and 3D drawings, ensuring compliance with industry standards and company guidelines.
- Shop Drawing Process Management: Oversee the shop drawing process from initial concept to final approval, ensuring accuracy and timely delivery of drawings.
- Collaboration with External Drafters: Work with external drafters to coordinate drawing standards, review submissions, and integrate their work into the overall project.
- Material Specifications: Identify and specify materials and finishes in collaboration with the design and engineering teams.
- Quality Assurance: Review and verify shop drawings for accuracy, completeness, and adherence to project specifications.
- Standards Compliance: Ensure that all drawings comply with ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act), AIA (American Institute of Architects) guidelines, and other relevant industry standards.
- Communication: Effectively communicate with internal teams, external drafters, and other stakeholders to address design queries, changes, and approvals.
- Deadline Management: Manage and prioritize multiple projects simultaneously, ensuring timely completion of shop drawings.
- Continuous Improvement: Stay informed about industry trends, new materials, and technologies to contribute ideas for process improvement and innovation.
Qualifications
- Associate degree or certification in drafting, engineering, or a related field.
- Proven experience as a Drafter/Shop Drawing Specialist in cabinet and custom millwork.
- Proficiency in CAD software (AutoCAD, SolidWorks, etc.).
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy in drafting.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
- Ability to interpret architectural and engineering drawings.
- Experience managing shop drawing processes and working with external drafters.
- Knowledge of ADA, AIA guidelines, and other industry standards.
- Knowledge of construction materials and methods is a plus.
