About the role
The Construction Project Manager will be responsible for managing the planning, design, and construction of new retail stores, renovations, and special projects. This role requires strong leadership, project management skills, and the ability to work collaboratively with internal teams and external vendors. The Construction Manager will ensure that all projects are completed on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards.
What you’ll do:
- Project Management: Lead the end-to-end management of construction projects, including planning, budgeting, scheduling, and store build execution and installation.
- Vendor Management: Select, negotiate, and manage relationships with architects, contractors, facilities maintenance accounts, and suppliers to ensure project success for existing stores, future build outs and renovations.
- Budgeting: Develop and manage project budgets, ensuring cost control and timely delivery within allocated financial resources.
- Sourcing: Sourcing of materials, products, and supplies to ensure stores have the necessary resources to meet project demands.
- Quality Control: Oversee all aspects of construction and ongoing facilities maintenance to ensure high-quality work and adherence to brand standards for new and existing stores.
- Permitting & Compliance: Ensure all projects comply with local building codes, safety regulations, and company standards. Follow local permitting requirements, regulations, and property management requirements based on the market.
- Ensuring compliance with safety standards, and staying updated on retail design trends and innovations to enhance the overall shopping experience.
- Team Collaboration: Work closely with the design, real estate, and operations teams to align construction activities with company objectives.
- Reporting: Provide regular updates to senior management on project status, risks, and key milestones.
- Problem Solving: Proactively address and resolve any issues that arise during and before the construction process, including unexpected delays or budget challenges.
- Documentation: Maintain detailed records of project plans, contracts, change orders, and final project deliverables.
What you’ll do:
- Bachelor’s degree and 5+ years of experience in construction management and new store build outs preferably in retail or commercial environments.
- Proven experience managing multiple projects simultaneously.
- Strong knowledge of construction processes, materials, and building codes.
- Excellent project management, organizational, and leadership skills.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
- Strong communication and negotiation skills.
- Experienced in proactively diagnosing and resolving complex issues.
- Ability to read and understand architectural floor plans and blueprints, with a focus on retail space planning.
- Proficiency in construction management software and tools including 2D, 3D and AutoCAD.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, creative environment, demonstrating adaptability and resilience.
- Ability to support both HQ office in Montclair, NJ as well as a boots on the ground support across all current storefronts and future retail build outs. Eligible to travel for up to 40% of their time.
