About Us: Based in the heart of Chicago, our investment banking corporate office is a hub for high-impact, mission-critical technology solutions. We’re looking for a seasoned Mainframe System Architect to lead our Mainframe Infrastructure Engineering team.
Role Overview: We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Mainframe Architect to join our team. This is a hands-on, technical leadership role focused on the design, implementation, and transformation of our Mainframe Infrastructure. You will be a pivotal player in ensuring the resilience and scalability of our mainframe solutions in a high-stakes, mission-critical environment.
Mainframe Architect - Key Responsibilities:
- Architectural Leadership: Define and enforce Mainframe Infrastructure Architecture Standards and best practices. Oversee the technical lifecycle of products and services, from design through implementation, ensuring smooth transitions to operations.
- Design and Implementation: Develop Low-Level Design documents, create detailed Implementation Plans, and manage the execution of major product upgrades in production-like environments. Mitigate risks through effective testing and proven back-out plans.
- Documentation and Compliance: Document infrastructure standards, maintain product roadmaps, and ensure compliance with security and industry standards.
- Mentorship and Skill Development: Mentor team members, ensuring skills are up-to-date to support change and provide high-level support.
Core Skills & Experience:
- Experience: Minimum of 12 years as a Mainframe System Architect within a large enterprise, ideally in finance or investment banking.
- Technical Expertise: Deep knowledge of IBM Mainframe technologies, including zOS System Programming, ACF2, SMP/E, VTAM, and HMC. Experience with JCL, CICS, DB2, IMS, OPS-MVS, REXX, CLIST, Python, UNIX Shell, and VSAM is highly desirable.
- Design and Engineering: Proven track record in designing resilient and scalable solutions, performance tuning, and system upgrades.
- Modernization and Cloud: Experience in analyzing, designing, and implementing changes to migrate mainframe applications to modern cloud environments.
Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related IT field, or equivalent work experience.
- Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
