The Benefits Analyst is responsible for administering multiple aspects of the health and welfare plans including self-insured and fully-insured health plans, dental, vision, health savings account, flexible spending accounts, COBRA, and commuter benefits. Reporting to the Senior Director of Benefits, the benefits analyst is accountable for health and welfare plan administration, vendor management, employee communication, employee issue resolution and ensuring the plans and programs are managed in accordance with plan provisions. The Benefits Analyst will be expected to provide assistance and analysis on special projects as needed.
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree preferred plus 2 to 3 years experience in benefit plan administration
- Handles moderately complex issues and problems.
- Possesses solid working knowledge of subject matter.
- Able to handle high level of confidentiality concerning employee information.
- Proficiency and technical aptitude with MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and strong familiarity with HRIS systems.
- Strong organization and communication skills.
- Works well in a team environment.
- Excellent problem-solving skills.
- Experience in a union environment a plus.
Job Duties & Functions
- Provides assistance during annual benefits open enrollment, including enrollment system set-up, audits, and communication.
- Ensures compliance with all legal and regulatory requirements related to benefits by maintaining up-to-date knowledge and understanding of ERISA, IRS regulations, ACA, COBRA, HIPAA.
- Handles benefits-related inquiries from employees and managers and addresses their concerns promptly.
- Researches and stays informed about latest trends and best practices in employee benefits.
- Works with third party vendors and consultants to ensure benefit programs are administered accurately.
- Assists with the design and implementation of new benefits programs or policies.
- Assists in the execution and administration and providing analytical support to for a variety of benefit policies and programs.
- Prepares standard and ad hoc reports related to benefit programs.
- Provides support to HR department concerning interpretation of benefit practices and guidelines.
- Provides guidance on issues related to benefits for management.
- Ability to apply judgment to assess and resolve sensitive and highly confidential issues.
- Ability to react appropriately in a challenging and changing environment.
- Time management skills and attention to detail are required to manage multiple processes and implementation initiatives.
- Performs other tasks as needed.
