Job Description:
RESPONSIBILITIES
The Trend Consultant is responsible for research and communication of trends and conceptual ideas that are highly creative, brand relevant, and trend appropriate for the customer. This individual demonstrates leadership, collaboration, and influence cross-functionally. He or she protects the integrity of the brand by delivering conceptual ideas that fulfills the Merchandising strategies and meets the customers’ expectations in quality, design, and functionality. This position requires close collaborative partnerships with Design, Merchandising, Sourcing, and Marketing.
Responsibilities:
- Trend and Market Knowledge: Under the direction of the VP of Design Responsible for researching global and domestic markets to identify new trends, fabrics, accessories, and techniques; ensures product is consistent with market trends while maintaining brand integrity and business strategies. Influences the assortment with key design, merchandising or marketing ideas. Travels to relevant dance events, domestic markets, and fabric shows.
- Attends local and national dance recitals and competitions to analyze current dance trends.
- Demonstrates an excellent knowledge of the customer, brand, and competitive landscape. Fabric, Trim, and Color Development: Partners with Design Management to format, create and share Raw Material Concept Presentations electronically.
- Travels and shops domestic markets for new fabrics, trims, color inspiration and accessories.
- Technical Skills: Partners with Design Management to format, create and share Trend Recaps and Concept Presentations electronically.
- Works cross functionally to guide and incorporate trends within the line. Maintain the trend portal. Communication: Displays a high level of communication and presentation skills.
- Ability to communicate creative vision from concept to finished product and present to merchants and design partners.
- Expected Outcomes: Timelines: Meets all internal Design, Merchandising, Purchasing and Marketing deadlines as planned.
- Monitors flow of trend information to the design department to ensure design goals are met.
- Leadership: Successful introduction of new ideas, business opportunities and process efficiencies by confidently selling these ideas/processes internally while listening to and incorporating appropriate suggestions of management, peers and subordinates.
- Successful development and training of design team members.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Apparel Design or Merchandising
- 3 to 5+ years of professional experience in Apparel Design or Merchandising Strong aesthetic related to the brands and customer base
- Excellent understanding of garment construction, fit, finishes and industry resources
- Ability to travel domestically Excellent computer skills including Microsoft Office, Google Suite and Adobe
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively cross-functionally and to influence ideas internally
- Strong leadership skills, and ability to partner with management cross- functionally
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic, and collaborative team environment; flexible and adaptable to change
