Our client - an aerospace and defense company, isseeking a dynamic and innovative Principal Project Engineer to join our Weapon Systems Integration (WSI) team in Indianapolis, IN. This role is pivotal in leading multidisciplinary development teams to deliver air-based systems recognized for their tactical defense solutions.
The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership skills and be adept at influencing teams, driving technical solutions, and ensuring project success.
Education Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) discipline.
- MBA or Master’s in Engineering preferred.
Required Skills:
- Minimum of eight (8) years of related experience.
- Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
- Proven leadership abilities with experience managing technical project teams.
- Systems Engineering experience, including requirements management and lifecycle management.
- Demonstrated problem-solving skills and a talent for mentoring.
- Proficiency in Earned Value Management (EVM).
- Ability to read and comprehend technical drawings and documentation.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, Teams, and Windows; Microsoft Project and scheduling practices.
Desired Skills:
- Experience managing both traditional and Agile teams.
- Familiarity with Azure DevOps or similar tools for backlog management.
- Proposal development experience and ability to build diverse teams.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
- Proficiency in CREO or other CAD programs.
- Project Management Professional (PMP) certification.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and coordinate dynamic, multidisciplinary development teams across Systems, Hardware, and Software Engineering, as well as Production, Supply Chain, and Quality Assurance.
- Support all phases of the development process, including planning, execution, and management of complex projects.
- Develop project plans, maintain schedules, and drive teams towards solutions that meet technical requirements and cost targets.
- Communicate effectively with all organizational levels, advocating for company procedures and tools.
- Coordinate project backlogs, write user stories, and manage Agile project releases.
- Monitor project performance using Key Performance Measures (KPIs) and provide recommendations for project direction.
- Facilitate project reviews, including kick-offs and customer/internal meetings, presenting program metrics to leadership.
- Ensure compliance with technical management processes, including risk and opportunity management.
- Mentor and develop talent within the project team, fostering problem-solving skills.
