Powell Research and Development is hiring a Senior Design for Manufacture (DFM) Engineer in Southeast Houston! As a DFM Engineer you will be a part of the Research and Development Team and work with New Product Development Engineers as well as Manufacturing Engineers from production organizations to help ensure that new designs are ready for large scale manufacturing. You will suggest improvements to designs that enhance manufacturability and drive cost optimization. You will also explore new production methods, tooling and help develop work instructions. This position is required to identify and implement processes that improve safety, quality, and operating efficiency in a manner that supports the objectives of all business units. Job Description - Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams to ensure robust DFM/DFA/DFX, providing leadership and expertise in product manufacturability
- Product review at part/component level for ease of manufacturing and assembly
- Identify and communicate manufacturability and assembly concerns and risks as needed. Provide clear DFM/DFA design change recommendations throughout the entire product development process from concept to production.
- Ensure product manufacturing and assembly requirements are clearly understood by manufacturing partners
- Assists in Development of New Products by studying product requirements; researching, designing, modifying, and testing manufacturing methods and equipment; collaborating with manufacturing partners and equipment vendors.
- Improves manufacturing efficiency by helping to analyze and plan work flow, space requirements, and equipment layout.
- Assures product and process quality by helping to design testing methods; testing finished- product and process capabilities; establishing standards; confirming manufacturing processes.
- Provides upfront input into prototype designs by providing manufacturing decision-making information such as calculating production, labor, and material costs.
- Provides manufacturing engineering information by answering questions and requests.
- Completes design and development projects by helping to train assembly staff.
- Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies.
- Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
Job Requirements - BS Degree in Manufacturing or Mechanical Engineering.
- Minimum 10 years of experience in a Manufacturing Engineer role.
- Minimum 3-5 years of experience in a DFM/DFA specific engineering role
- Strong understanding of Sheet metal design especially with self-fixture concepts.
- Demonstrated proficiency with computer skills using Oracle and MS Office Suite.
- Demonstrated success with specifying, implementing, and manufacturing equipment.
- Demonstrated strong mechanical aptitude.
- Advanced knowledge using drafting/CAD skills (Autodesk Inventor preferred) with the ability to create and

- Proven track record of completing process improvements from conception through final implementation and ramp-up.
- Familiar with statistical test procedures and corrective action techniques.
- Excellent mechanical and electrical systems aptitude. Understanding of pneumatic, hydraulic, and servo positioning systems, as well as, and machine controls.

Working ConditionsThe employee typically performs duties in a normal office environment. There may be some work in a manufacturing environment and exposure to the elements of our factory. Additionally, there may be some work performed in the field with exposure to construction sites or active customer facilities.
