Company Overview.
Luminous Robotics, Inc. aims to become the fastest iterating robotics company in the world. Our vision is to commoditize *harsh* manual work. We design, build, and ship embodied AI robotic systems for the industrials – uniquely focused on manual use cases beyond the scope and capacity of a single human (e.g. solar construction).
Our mission is to solve one of the biggest problems of our generation – building renewable energy infrastructure at an unprecedented rate never seen before in the history of the solar industry – which is seeing labor and logistics bottlenecks jeopardizing our transition to a green, decarbonization future. As a response, we created LUMI, a robot designed from first principles to 10x the full lifecycle of solar to construct, operate, and decommission solar farms of all sizes, at a global scale.
About the Role.
Luminous is seeking skilled robotics engineers to join our team of ex-NASA, Stanford, MIT, Harvard, Softbank Robotics, Nissan, and GE founders who have not only worked at world class companies, shipping 1000s of robots into production, but have also built, scaled, and exited multiple startups.
We are an early stage startup with high growth potential – the candidates will report directly to the founding team and will have a significant equity stake in the company. Earlier this year, we built and shipped LUMI 001, installing its first solar farm in VA - likely on the fastest timeline for a hardware company from zero to prod (10 weeks). We are looking for a self-driven, passionate, and ambitious builder who not only has an immense desire for the betterment of our planet, but strong leadership qualities to make it happen.
Responsibilities
This is a general job posting for up to five positions, across junior and senior levels – spanning software and hardware focuses. You will be responsible for,
- Ownership of various software modules within the LUMI robot spanning navigation, perception, manipulation, UX, and general software engineering, and/or
- Ownership of various hardware related projects such as conducting rapid R&D, mechanical and electrical integrations, safety systems, mechanism design, and product reliability hardening, and/or
- Ownership across the full scope of deploying, supporting, and delivering onsite customer projects in the field, directly contributing to building solar farms real time
Qualifications
We believe the ideal candidates are not necessarily the ones that have a specific type of education or previous employment experience – rather they have a synergetic and deep appreciation for the culture we are building at Luminous (see open sourced memo on website) and has the engineering talent to get sh*t done. Meaning, you embody
- General creativity to manifest amazing engineering solutions in a sea of unknowns, overwhelming constraints, and ambitious timelines, and have
- Deep curiosity and passion to solve problems where there is no correct answer with resourcefulness to discover answers to problems that have indeed already been solved
The following are some skills that will likely be relevant to your day to day,
- Writing clean, efficient C++ code for robots in production (industry standards like ROS, OpenCV, PCL)
- Classical computer vision principles (2D features, convolutions, etc) and 3D point cloud geometric algorithms, along with machine learning models (shipping neural nets into prod) for navigation and manipulation
- Ability to CAD concepts and manufacture them into reality
- Working with kinematics and motion control for industrial robot arms
- Working with RGB-D cameras, active & passive stereo systems, LiDARs at both a hardware and software integration level
- Knowledge of basic electronics, communication protocols, battery systems, mechanisms, high voltage systems
- Ability to debug across the full stack down to the hardware level if required
