About the Role: This leadership role focuses on managing the fleet operations at a single, high-volume location overseeing a fleet of thousands of vehicles. You'll oversee a team that includes 6 managers (focused on service, parts, and damage) and 29 technicians (A, B, and C level techs, and occasionally bus technicians). The ideal candidate will have a strong background in managing both the P&L, and subcategories such as tire expenses, oil expenses, salary & wages, and inventory management. This role involves reducing out-of-service counts, managing aged vehicles, and coordinating vehicle repairs (including body damage).
Responsibilities:
- Lead and develop a high-performance team, ensuring smooth operations across all aspects of vehicle repair, in-fleeting, and de-fleeting processes.
- Oversee daily operations for a large-scale fleet, working actively in the lot and shop, identifying and addressing stagnant vehicles and personnel.
- Manage financial performance, including monitoring and controlling expenses related to tires, oil, and other fleet-related costs.
- Maintain out-of-service vehicle counts, ensuring downtime is minimized, and vehicle repairs are completed promptly.
- Collaborate with and manage relationships with unionized employees, ensuring smooth day-to-day operations.
- Conduct regular inventory assessments, including counting vehicles and managing the body damage repair process.
- Ensure safety and compliance protocols are followed, creating a safe and efficient work environment for all team members.
- Partner with vendors and other service providers to manage ongoing fleet repairs and maintenance needs.
Qualifications:
- Minimum 5 years of management experience, ideally within the full service automotive industry, rental cars, or large dealership settings.
- Experience managing unionized employees is a huge plus
- Previous experience managing a high-performing automotive services team with multiple direct reports
- Strong P&L management skills, including the ability to break down financial performance by subcategories such as tire and oil expenses, and manage other financial aspects.
- Proven ability to manage fleet service operations, including monitoring and controlling out-of-service vehicles, reducing aged vehicle counts, and maintaining an efficient operation.
- Willingness to be hands-on, working in the shop and on the lot, identifying inefficiencies and addressing them directly. This is not an office-based role-the successful candidate will be active in overseeing day-to-day fleet operations.
Additional Information:
- This is a hands-on management role, not suitable for someone seeking to work primarily from an office.
- The successful candidate will be responsible for fostering a high-performance team culture, managing union relationships, and driving operational excellence across the location.
- Travel may be required to oversee other fleet operations as needed, though the primary focus will remain on this location.
