The Health & Safety Manager reports directly to the Plant Manager at the facility and be responsible for providing focus, definition, and technical expertise for the development of a proactive Health and Safety plan that is consistent with Pactiv Evergreen’s (PTVE) corporate policies, vision, and values; and is in compliance with local, state, and federal Health & Safety regulations. The Health & Safety Manager covers the Pine Bluff Mill and two off-site Chip Mills. In addition to Safety & Health, this role oversees Mill Security, the Emergency Response Team (ERT) and Fire Suppression systems.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Drive the development and implementation of Health & Safety policies, procedures, and programs.
- Oversees plant safety portion of all regulatory audits both internal and 3rd party.
- Implement the PTVE Health and Safety Management Technical Standards.
- Maintain updated OSHA required written programs and develop/conduct training as necessary.
- Oversee the reporting and investigations of any potential injury, accident, and/or health and safety related issues.
- Provide tactical leadership through proactively identifying areas of improvement, development of solutions and then implementing to bring change.
- Promote our Zero Harm culture
- Oversee and conduct the necessary health and safety training to support and enhance the organization’s safety culture.
- Develop and deploy policies, procedures, programs to support best-practice and identify best-practices with the PTVE system.
- Provide communication and training to plant management, establish and maintain communications, reporting, assessments, training programs, and guidance.
- Work with the Corporate Health & Safety departments and provide prioritized direction and technical expertise to the engineering organizations or contractors in implementing Health & Safety projects.
- Have a relentless pursuit for injury prevention, compliance, and risk reduction.
- Be capable of aligning the local team and influencing others to achieve the desired H&S performance objectives outlined by corporate initiatives, business unit initiatives, and local/site initiatives.
- Review and analyze data to determine the next opportunity to improve H&S performance.
- Bring experience with innovative H&S compliance and risk reduction techniques via employee engagement, behavior-based safety programs, risk assessments, and understanding of implementing, managing, and sustaining H&S programs in a manufacturing environment.
Education and/or Experience Requirements (Qualifications)
Education:
- BA/BS degree in Occupational Safety & Health, Environmental Engineering or technical discipline or related field or 3+ year in a related field
- Must have certification as a Radiation Safety Officer (RSO) or have the ability to certify within six months.
Experience
- 3+ years of progressive and related professional health and safety experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
- Proficient in MS Office
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including presentation skills and the ability to communicate and influence at all levels within the organization.
- Self-directed with the ability to work in a fast-paced environment with multiple accountabilities and multiple internal customers.
- Strong analytical skills as well as organizational skills.
- Solid project management capabilities with the ability to organize and manage multiple projects simultaneously from origin through execution.
- Well-developed leadership and motivational skills with proven ability to influence and motivate others to quickly achieve results.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule during key business deadlines.
- Ability to travel (5%).
- Must be team oriented with the ability to work on high collaboration and performance teams.

The Evergreen Packaging Pine Bluff Paper Mill is located in Pine Bluff, Arkanas, less than an hour from Little Rock in scenic southeast Arkansas. It is the largest industrial employer in Jefferson County.
