POSITION OVERVIEW
Provide on-shift leadership for distribution center teams working in a wide variety of distribution center activities related to receiving, replenishment, picking of store orders, E Com, loading of trucks, inventory control, slotting and support roles. Inspires and motivates employees to meet performance expectations and to be highly engaged in the business.
Successful performance in this role is a gateway to future positions of increased responsibility in the Distribution Center and career growth as a supply chain / logistics professional.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (May include but not limited to the following)
- Will periodically be the sole on-site management team presence for the Distribution facility overseeing all aspects of the operation
- Assist in training of new Distribution Center employees assigned to the function being supervised
- Planning work schedules for employees to ensure adequate staffing is available for critical business needs
- Assigning work to team members on a daily basis in the most efficient ways
- Assuring shift teams are equipped with necessary supplies and equipment
- Monitoring work performance of individuals in their area for productivity, quality, safety, procedural compliance and giving appropriate reinforcing feedback or coaching
- Monitoring floor operations by doing Gemba walks and floor presence, observing workflow, adherence to SOP’s, housekeeping, safety and takes appropriate follow up action or escalates as appropriate.
- Utilization of standard work for all functional areas including but not limited to shift start up, daily activities and closing operations
- Standard work follow up on Korber One (WMS) and 6 Rivers autonomous mobile robot solutions (AMR) applications
- Monitor dashboards for both Korber One and 6 Rivers solution to assign work and redirect labor accordingly
- Solves problems and makes operating decisions during shift operations to maintain smooth workflow and to insure completion of order fulfillment and goods processing
- Coaching and developing of individuals to achieve top performance on their key metrics
- Completes shift summary reports and reconciles problem areas on a timely basis
- Establishes and maintains high standards of safety, housekeeping and orderliness
- Escalates issues and problems on a timely basis to management that require additional resources or help
- Identifies opportunities and create action plans for continuous process improvement in the operation to reduce cost, reduce cycle time, improve UPH/CPH, improve service, quality assurance and mobilize resources to fully implement changes
- Regularly communicates information about the WSS business and Distribution Center priorities while providing direction to their teams
- Communicate issues and needs across shifts and department lines; actively participates in cross-shift exchanges and hand offs
- Communicate and reinforce company policies and standards
- Participates and actively contributes in Daily Management Reviews and Leadership team meetings
- Maintains a healthy, respectful, positive work environment
- Monitors visual controls, digital displays, Kanban signals, signage, etc.
- Maintains training materials, SOP’s are kept current and revised as needed for areas of responsibility
- Maintains key performance metric databases analyzing trends and performance
KEY PERFORMANCE METRICS
Performance will be evaluated across a variety of metrics for the team – productivity, quality, safety, housekeeping, employee relations, procedural compliance such as:
- 100% completion of the daily action items resulting from the Managing for Daily Improvement (MDI) meetings
- Productivity metrics in assigned area vs. the established standard
- Accuracy %– count and item, vs. the established standard
- 100% adherence to procedures – i.e. tote labelling, replenishment, picking, store staging, LP scanning and One Touching
- Completion of continuous improvement initiatives in assigned area
- Ability to follow and model the WSS Core Values
- Team safety performance -no injuries or unsafe behaviors and participation in the BBS program
- Housekeeping – adhering to expectations around workplace cleanliness, orderliness and aisle integrity
- Creation and maintenance of a healthy, positive employee relations climate and culture
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
Knowledge of:
- Warehouse / Distribution Center operations concepts of inventory controls, order fulfillment and product movement
- Basic knowledge of Warehouse Management Systems
Strong PC skills - Excel, Word, Outlook. Ability to work with spreadsheets is critical.

- Utilize visual communication and dashboards to deploy resources safely and effectively
- Ability to present information and discuss openly in forums such as daily MDI and leadership team meetings
- Proficient in math computations such as add, subtract, multiply, divide and %’s
- Meet schedules/timelines as well as plan and organize own work. Must be able to reliably work alternative and flexible work schedules including Saturdays, Sundays, Holidays, early mornings and evenings
- Work effectively and collaboratively as a WSS team member
- Surface problems and problem solve effectively and think creatively
- Provide feedback and coaching to employees in a positive, developmental manner
- Willingness to continuously learn and self-develop
- Must have the leadership skills needed for eventual promotion to higher levels of responsibility

Education and / or Experience Requirements
- High School diploma or equivalent is required; College strongly preferred. Ability to read, write and speak English fluently is required; the ability to speak Spanish is an asset but not a requirement.
- At least 2 years of supervisory or lead / coordinator experience leading teams of 10 or more people or experience of equivalent leadership complexity.
- Ideally 2-3 years of experience in distribution center operations
Special Consideration given to:
- Applicants with 5 or more years’ experience in Distribution operations, with RF devices, order picking, automation, robotics, receiving, logistics experience
- Prior experience with a tier 1 or 2 WMS system
- English/Spanish bi-lingual
- College degree; coursework, certifications or degree in supply chain logistics or related area
- Knowledge or experience with Lean management concepts
