Production Manager – Recreational Boat Manufacturer

Summary:
The Production Manager is responsible for overseeing the overall manufacturing and assembly processes. A key focus will be on managing day-to-day production activities, including setting and meeting goals, maintaining quality standards, problem-solving, and continuously seeking ways to improve. The PM collaborates with key members of the manufacturing and operations leadership teams to monitor and evaluate workflow and assembly methods and drives process improvements. This role also oversees staffing and training for production, as well as prepares and audits production, staffing, and budgetary reports.
Job Functions:
- Champion all aspects of safety in manufacturing and assembly processes.
- Oversee manufacturing operations while leading the production team to achieve on-time, high-quality output.
- Ensure the overall well-being of the production floor by analyzing situations and making decisions in the company’s best interest.
- Lead continuous improvement initiatives related to production processes.
- Establish production goals and metrics in alignment with strategic company directives to promote business growth and effectiveness.
- Partner with Product and Manufacturing Engineering early in the development stage to build quality into product designs and manufacturing processes.
- Collaborate with Quality and Engineering Departments to analyze production data and develop long-term production and quality plans.
- Formulate and implement production performance objectives to meet organizational plans.
- Communicate and collaborate cross-functionally with other business units to address common production challenges.
- Develop and execute budgets, staffing plans, hiring plans, site facility recommendations, and associated re-engineering activities.
- Drive continuous improvement activities through root cause analysis and preventive actions to prevent recurring quality and production issues.
- Work closely with Human Resources to ensure that all personnel actions, such as recruitments, transfers, promotions, performance reviews, and disciplinary actions, adhere to company policies.
Qualifications and Skills:
- At least ten years of work experience in manufacturing, production, manufacturing engineering, quality product integrity, and material management.
- A minimum of four (4) years in a managerial role overseeing one or more of these functions.
- Experience or knowledge in the marine manufacturing industry is a plus.
- A strong track record of successfully leading people and teams.
- Proven ability to meet or exceed production goals in previous roles, utilizing forecasting, production planning, and process improvement measures.
- Demonstrated ability to acquire and utilize technical skills to identify and resolve issues at their root cause.
- Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing Techniques, Kata, Root Cause and Corrective Action (RCCA), and conflict resolution.
- Ability to interact effectively with employees at all levels, build teams, and communicate priorities efficiently.
- Familiarity with ISO 9001 and OSHA 14001 requirements and procedures.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to effectively communicate and present information to employees and upper management.
- Proficiency in MS Office products.
