Position Summary
A motivated individual to drive manufacturing process improvements for the site that impact safety, quality, delivery performance, and productivity. Improvements will utilize the HBD business system to maximize and sustain changes to the work. It includes the development and implementation of a strategic, future factory vision for the site. The role is based in the Flowery Branch (Atlanta metro area), Georgia site, reporting to the Plant Manager.
Principle Duties and Responsibilities
- Engages with the site’s continuous improvement roadmap to identify and prioritize performance improvement efforts for the site.
- Leads manufacturing engineering initiatives that result in better process control, variation reduction, and productivity improvements.
- Evaluates and improves machining operations utilizing experience in CNC machining with tooling, fixturing, machines, and machine shop standard work.
- Evaluates and improves manual assembly operations with experience in assembly tools and work stations with standard work.
- Identifies and deploys new manufacturing technologies as required to address the business problems on the factory floor.
- Studies and applies the HBD business system to accomplish the above listed improvement efforts.
- Works with suppliers and production personnel to arrange for cost effective purchase of equipment, materials, or parts, and evaluates products according to specifications and quality standards.
- Analyzes and plans work force utilization, space requirements, workflow, and facility layout of equipment and workspace for efficient utilization of equipment and personnel.
- Provides engineering guidance and assistance to the manufacturing, assembly, quality assurance and tooling departments.
- Communicates daily regarding manufacturing engineering activities.
Experience and Education Required
- Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering, or technically related field
- 5 to 7 years’ experience as Manufacturing Engineer in an industrial manufacturing environment of varied manufacturing processes, in a high mix – low volume environment.
- Knowledge of Gear products manufacturing preferred.
- Experience with implementing improvements in an industrial environment with emphasis on manufacturability, cost and process reliability.
- Knowledge of CNC machining, programing, fixture design, and cutting tools
- Proven experience with Lean Manufacturing
- Ability to demonstrate effective oral and written communication skills
- Effective follow-up, analytics and project management
Technical Skills
- Advanced skill with all MS Office products
- Proficiency with Solid Works or other 3D design software is preferred
- Knowledge of machine programming/CAD/CAM is preferred
