Project Manager - Automotive Material Handling Systems
Location: Detroit Metro Area
We are seeking a Project Manager to join our client, a leading material handling systems integrator serving the automotive industry. This organization focuses on the design, manufacturing, installation, and support of cutting-edge material handling systems for some of the world’s largest and fastest-growing automotive companies.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and manage project goals, including milestones, financial targets, and reporting requirements.
- Act as the primary point of contact with clients, ensuring effective communication and relationship management.
- Create and maintain detailed project schedules and financial plans.
- Oversee internal teams, including Mechanical and Electrical Engineering, Manufacturing, and external subcontractors, ensuring alignment with project plans.
- Proactively identify and solve project-related issues while following the appropriate chain of command.
- Travel to job sites as needed to manage subcontractors and ensure projects meet contractual milestones.
Additional Responsibilities:
- Learn and adhere to the company’s project structures, procedures, and strategies.
- Gain product and technical knowledge relevant to the company’s offerings.
- Drive projects to completion on schedule and under budget.
- Manage all project changes, including pricing, tracking, and processing.
- Coordinate and document all project meetings and maintain effective communication with all stakeholders.
- Establish detailed project schedules, prioritize tasks, and manage long lead times.
- Ensure smooth coordination of engineering and shop activities.
- Handle all drawing submittals and transmittals, ensuring accurate record-keeping.
- Manage requests for quotation and subcontractor agreements in collaboration with the sales team and accounting.
Qualifications:
- 4-5 years of project management experience within a conveyor, automotive, and/or warehouse environment.
- Experience in the automotive, industrial, or construction sectors is required.
- Background in conveyor and material handling systems is highly desirable.
- Strong problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
- Self-managed with the ability to engage fully in projects and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) is required; familiarity with Microsoft Project is a plus.
- Understanding of wiring diagrams, mechanical layouts, and OSHA 30 training is advantageous.
- Knowledge of automotive manufacturing processes is a plus.
- A four-year accredited Engineering degree or equivalent work experience is required.
