Position Overview:
We are seeking a detail-oriented and strategic Medical Device Buyer to join our Group Purchasing Organization (GPO). The ideal candidate will have a strong technical background and a deep understanding of the medical device industry. This role is responsible for sourcing, negotiating, and managing supplier relationships for a broad range of medical devices, ensuring cost-effective procurement while maintaining the highest standards of quality and compliance. The candidate will work closely with cross-functional teams including engineering, clinical staff, and suppliers to optimize purchasing strategies and support product development and patient care objectives.
Key Responsibilities:
- Supplier Sourcing & Negotiation: Identify, evaluate, and select suppliers of medical devices and equipment. Lead supplier negotiations to secure favorable terms, including pricing, delivery, and service agreements.
- Procurement Strategy: Develop and implement strategic sourcing plans for medical devices in line with organizational goals and GPO contracts. Ensure compliance with industry regulations and standards.
- Cost Management: Analyze and track market trends to identify opportunities for cost savings while maintaining the quality and performance of medical devices. Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance procurement processes.
- Contract Management: Collaborate with legal and regulatory teams to establish and maintain supplier contracts that meet both financial and operational requirements. Ensure timely renewal and renegotiation of agreements.
- Cross-functional Collaboration: Work closely with engineering, product development, clinical, and regulatory teams to understand technical requirements and ensure that purchased medical devices meet all specifications.
- Inventory and Supply Chain Optimization: Monitor inventory levels, coordinate with logistics, and optimize procurement cycles to ensure an uninterrupted supply of medical devices to healthcare providers.
- Supplier Performance Management: Establish key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure supplier performance. Conduct regular reviews to assess quality, delivery timelines, and compliance with contractual terms.
- Market Research: Stay informed on market developments, new technologies, and regulatory changes impacting the medical device industry.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in a technical discipline such as Biomedical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Supply Chain, or a related field.
- 3-5 years of experience in purchasing or supply chain management within the medical device industry or healthcare sector, preferably within a GPO setting.
- Strong understanding of medical device regulations (FDA, ISO standards) and GPO contracting processes.
- Demonstrated experience in supplier negotiation, contract management, and cost analysis.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across departments.
- Proficiency in procurement software and ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle).
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
