A purchasing manager in manufacturing is responsible for developing and implementing procurement strategies to ensure a reliable supply of goods and services, while optimizing costs and maintaining quality standards. Their duties include:
- Evaluating suppliers
- Purchasing managers evaluate suppliers based on price, quality, and delivery speed. They may also visit suppliers' plants and distribution centers to learn about their products and services.
- Negotiating contracts
- Purchasing managers negotiate contracts with suppliers on behalf of their organization. They may also work out agreements with suppliers on when products will be delivered.
- Managing inventory
- Purchasing managers analyze demand patterns and forecast future needs to avoid shortages or excesses. They also maintain records of items bought, costs, deliveries, product performance, and inventories.
- Developing procurement policies
- Purchasing managers develop and implement instructions, policies, and procedures for purchasing and contract management.
- Collaborating with other departments
- Purchasing managers collaborate with other departments and leadership to identify and develop needs and requirements for equipment, materials, and products.
- Resolving grievances
- Purchasing managers resolve grievances with vendors, contractors, and suppliers.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's Degree
- 7 years of experience in materials or purchasing
- Equivalent education and experience may be considered
- Experience negotiating contracts in a cost competitive environment
- Experience with Domestic and foreign supply chains
- Experience in the electronics industry is strongly preferred
