SouthCoast Wind (SCW) is located in Boston, MA, currently developing a 2.4GW lease off the south coast of MA. Two 1.2GW projects are in development with expected FID 2025 and COD 2030.
The Grid Connection Manager will be responsible for managing all aspects of the interconnection process, including grid connection agreements for existing and new projects, as well as providing support on associated engineering and regulatory matters. This position will be responsible for ensuring grid compliance with power market open access transmission tariff requirements across various ISOs/RTOs.
Main Responsibilities:
- Lead the evaluation of new projects from a grid connection perspective, specifically through identifying and assessing potential grid connection locations
- Collaborate with the Technical and Commercial teams on interconnection strategy, design and implementation
- Manage and monitor interconnection process from filing to post-interconnection agreement phases
- Lead and manage negotiations for grid connection agreements
- Provide technical support to project teams and monitor/manage project commitments with respect to Grid Code compliance requirements
- Manage external consultants and scopes to ensure project requirements are delivered on time and to budget.
- Review technical study reports and provide insight on interconnection costs and risks
- Represent the company at various industry working groups and relevant stakeholder discussions within different ISOs, including ISO-NE, NYISO, PJM and CAISO
Minimum Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, Renewable Energy or a related field. Master’s degree in electrical engineering with emphasis on Power Systems is a plus
- Minimum 5 years of related experience in power systems, utility system planning and/or transmission planning
- Proven experience in ISOs throughout the US including ISO-NE, NYISO, PJM, CAISO
- Proven knowledge of how an ISO works, regarding interconnection application, market participation, ancillary services opportunities
- Knowledge of transmission planning and energy market policy issues, and commercial transactions, including offtakes and economic benefits is a plus
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret technical data and make informed decisions.
- Excellent communication skills to convey technical concepts to both technical and non-technical people
- Ability to manage multiple activities, deliver on commitments and operate with efficiency, accuracy and strong judgment
- Knowledge and experience with PSS/E, PSCAD or other power system software
- Knowledge of NERC, FERC compliance requirements is a plus
- Ability and willingness to travel on a periodic basis, to project sites and relevant team offices
