Design Engineer II – Electrical
The successful candidate will join CAIRE’s Research & Development team at the global headquarters in Ball Ground, Georgia. This individual will work on CAIRE’s oxygen therapy medical devices, with a focus on electronic embedded system design, as part of larger cross-disciplinary electro-mechanical design teams. This junior-mid level electrical engineer will integrate into the full product life cycle, from design and development to transfer to manufacturing and sustaining activities.
This on-site position is a hands-on engineering position with time spent in the office, laboratory and manufacturing floor for product launch support. Limited travel may be required to visit/support key suppliers or certified external laboratories. This position will be based out of the Canton/Ball Ground location of CAIRE, which is approximately 30 minutes north of the greater Atlanta, GA area. This is not a hybrid or remote opportunity.

Required Experience:
- BS Degree in Engineering – Electrical or Computer.
- Minimum two years professional engineering experience, preferably in the design and manufacturing of electro-mechanical products.
- Working knowledge of Electrical CAD software. Altium experience is preferred.
- Working knowledge of computers, including MS Word, Excel, and Office Suite programs.
- Strong communication and organizational skills
- Ability to work both independently and in team settings.
- Sound understanding of and demonstrated success applying fundamentals within electrical design: analog and digital circuits, digital communication, controls, energy consumption, PCBAs, prototyping and troubleshooting.
- Experience testing and troubleshooting utilizing multimeter and oscilloscope.
- Experience prototyping electrical assemblies and soldering PCB surface-mount components.
Preferred Experience:
- Experience with electrical design for embedded systems using microcontrollers.
- Experience with control systems, such as brushless DC motor control and electro-pneumatic systems.
- Experience with power management (AC and battery power) for low voltage devices.
- Experience implementing wireless solutions for Bluetooth, WIFI, and/or Cellular.
- Experience with serial communication protocols, such as UART, I2C, SPI, USB.
- Basic software programming knowledge, such as using languages such as C/C++.
- Medical Device background a plus
- Understanding of production metrics and Six Sigma.
- Understanding of Medical Device design control processes and associated ISO standards compliance (60601, 13485, 9001, etc.) preferred
Job Functions:
- Perform development and sustaining tasks for electro-mechanical medical devices with the cross functional design team.
- Design and develop innovative solutions to meet engineering and marketing requirements.
- Troubleshoot and determine corrective measures for prototype designs and quality defects.
- Develop and perform test protocols to evaluate design changes, product improvements and cost reduction opportunities.
- Design and fabricate prototypes, tooling fixtures, and test benches as required.
- Work with Supply Chain to optimize material supply chain for cost and design for manufacturability.
- Determine product/component costing and BOM (Bill of Materials) management through centralized document management system.
- Identify and resolve product assembly issues to improve product consistency and eliminate variance in conjunction with production and manufacturing engineering.
- Work within a greater team to ensure that all aspects of new product introduction, and changes to existing products, are effectively communicated to production personnel. Prepare and communicate ECO and/or TDD changes to production.
- Interface with various departments in coordinating technical information relating to specific projects or regarding quality issues.
- Sustain existing products, which may include identifying alternates for EOL components, design improvements, cost down efforts.
- Develop control and power management solutions to optimize power consumption, system reliability and performance.
- Develop test and diagnostics test hardware to support bench testing, production testing and field service.
- Perform electrical component selection and create PCB schematics. Perform and/or oversee PCBA layout.
- Observe and practice safety procedures and policies.
- Other duties and responsibilities as assigned by management.
Travel:
Yes, Travel up to 10% per year.
Your Physical Work Environment Will Require:
Ability to work in an office and lab environment.
This position will require the ability to move around the engineering lab and production floor to address production issues relating to products and equipment.
Ability to sit, stand, and/or walk for 8 hrs/day.
May need to lift up to 40 lbs.
