Role Description
As a Senior 3D Environment Artist, you will be responsible for creating high-quality, immersive 3D environments that enhance our user experiences across a variety of XR applications. You will collaborate closely with developers, designers and product managers to design virtual spaces that excite users and innovate the offering. This role requires creativity, passion and a strong technical understanding of 3D asset creation and technical art.
Key Responsibilities
3D Environment Design & Creation:
- Design, model, and texture 3D environments that are optimized for XR experiences across multiple platforms.
- Develop realistic, stylized, or abstract environments tailored to non-gaming industries, focusing on immersive, mixed reality, AR user experiences.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to ensure environments meet functional, aesthetic, and technical requirements.
XR Environment Optimization:
- Ensure all assets and environments are optimized for performance across XR devices (OculusQuest, VisionPro, mobile AR, etc.).
- Work closely with Unity developers to ensure environments are smoothly integrated and interact seamlessly within XR applications.
- Implement lighting, shading, and atmospheric effects to enhance realism and immersion.
Innovative Design Exploration:
- Experiment with new tools, techniques, and design concepts to create innovative virtual spaces that integrate volumetric captures and scans
- Collaborate with product teams to ideate and prototype unique immersive experiences unique to the platform
- Working with animation, automation, rigging and particles to build dynamic 3D environments
Cross-Functional Collaboration:
- Work alongside developers, designers, and product managers to understand project goals and develop environments that meet both creative and functional needs.
- Participate in regular team meetings, reviews, and feedback sessions to ensure alignment and foster collaborative problem-solving.
Asset Management & Documentation:
- Manage 3D assets and environments, ensuring organized file structures, efficient workflows, and clear documentation.
- Maintain and update asset libraries, ensuring consistent quality across projects.
Qualifications
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Multimedia, Computer Aided Design, Software Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience)
Experience:
- 5+ years of experience as a 3D environment artist, with at least 2 years working on XR projects.
- Proven experience in creating environments for non-gaming applications is highly desirable (e.g., education, healthcare, architecture, or enterprise solutions).
- Strong portfolio showcasing a wide range of 3D environments for immersive experiences.
Technical Skills:
- Proficiency in 3D software such as Blender, Maya, or 3ds Max, with a focus on environment design.
- Strong skills in Unity, with experience integrating environments into XR applications.
- Expertise in creating and optimizing assets for XR platforms, ensuring high performance and realism on diverse hardware.
- Knowledge of PBR texturing workflows and tools like Substance Painter/Designer, Photoshop, or similar.
Soft Skills:
- Strong creative vision with an ability to push the boundaries of design and experiment with new concepts.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary teams.
- Detail-oriented and capable of managing multiple projects with tight deadlines.
