Position: General Liability Defense / Coverage Associate
We are looking for a well-organized, self-starting attorney who can manage tasks and deadlines independently while keeping key stakeholders informed of case status. QUALIFICATIONS:
- JD from an accredited law school
- Admitted to practice law in New York
- 1 - 5 years’ experience in General liability and coverage, including defense of New York Labor Law, property damage, premises liability and construction defect or medical malpractice litigation and nursing home experience.
- Superior communication, writing, research, and time management skills.
- Ability to attend court appearances, depositions, site inspections, etc.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Manage a full case of load of 25 or more litigated matters from initial receipt up to trial preparation and through appeal, under the general supervision of a partner.
- Independently analyze case file, including medical records, contracts, inspection reports, and other litigation materials to determine facts/provisions relevant to claims and defenses.
- Monitor internal and external deadlines to prioritize and complete work in a timely manner.
- Perform research of complex issues.
- Understand how the facts of the case intersect with the law.
- Draft and/or answer discovery demands, pleadings, and motions, determining issues of fact.
- Reliably appear at court conferences, mediations, pretrial settlement conferences, and/or depositions and represent the client's interests by being fully informed and prepared prior to the appearance.
- Prepare for and take depositions of parties, fact witnesses and experts.
- Timely communicate with partners and clients.
- Provide periodic status reports as required by the client and carrier.
- Perform other duties consistent with those of an attorney as directed.
