Job Summary: The Safety Specialist is responsible for ensuring the safety and well-being of employees by developing, implementing, and maintaining comprehensive safety programs. This role focuses on emergency preparedness, including conducting drills, training, auditing, and serving as the lead coordinator for safety initiatives. The Safety Specialist will monitor and ensure compliance with all Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) regulations and standards.
Key Responsibilities:
Emergency Preparedness:
- Develop and implement emergency response plans and procedures.
- Coordinate and conduct regular emergency drills and simulations.
- Evaluate the effectiveness of emergency response plans and update them as necessary.
Training:
- Design and deliver safety training programs for employees at all levels.
- Ensure all employees are knowledgeable about emergency procedures and safety protocols.
- Maintain training records and ensure compliance with regulatory training requirements.
Auditing:
- Conduct regular safety audits and inspections to identify potential hazards.
- Develop corrective action plans to address identified safety issues.
- Monitor the implementation of corrective actions and ensure timely resolution.
Safety Coordination:
- Serve as the lead coordinator for all safety-related activities and initiatives.
- Collaborate with various departments to promote a culture of safety.
- Lead safety committees and facilitate regular safety meetings.
EHS Monitoring:
- Monitor compliance with EHS regulations and standards.
- Maintain and update safety policies and procedures.
- Investigate incidents and accidents, and develop strategies to prevent future occurrences.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, or a related field.
- Minimum of 1 year of experience in a safety-related role, with a focus on emergency preparedness.
- Strong knowledge of EHS regulations and standards.
- Excellent communication and training skills.
- Ability to conduct thorough audits and inspections.
- Strong organizational and leadership abilities.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Certification in Occupational Health and Safety (e.g., CSP, CIH).
- Experience in a Chemical Manufacturing Environment.
