Boulo Solutions is sourcing candidates for a local Birmingham-based non-profit research organization looking to hire a Part-Time Grant Writer to join their growing team.
Employment Type: Part Time, estimated 15 hours per week

Grant Writer Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Writes, edits, and submits all grant applications for new and existing programs within the Scientific Platforms division. Is responsible for accuracy and consistency.
- Works closely with scientific staff to become familiar with research and service offerings and incorporates that knowledge into writing/editing grant proposals.
- Completes all applications with appropriate attachments, including fiscal items, for review by leadership and principal investigators prior to submission.
- Develops and maintains a timeline for each grant submission to ensure adequate time for scientific review in order to submit the grant by the deadline.
- Prepares, organizes, and maintains standard information on the organization, its history and programs, and the background and credentials of key staff for use in grant applications. Updates this information as needed.
- Keeps in contact with grant-making organizations during their review of a submitted grant application in order to be able to supply additional supportive material.
- Coordinates and submits intermediate and closure grant reports for internal review and external submission.
- Uses electronic submission systems to apply for grants, cooperative agreements, and specified contracts, and to submit reports.
- Maintains a thorough knowledge of grant guidelines.
- Maintains current records in electronic and paper files to track grants and complete grant reporting.
- Identifies organizations and initiatives for potential new grant submissions including and works with internal departments and principal investigators to identify new opportunities.
- Tracks and reports on new funding opportunities related to the mission of the organization.
- Participates in and coordinates activities commonly associated with responding to requests for proposals (RFPs), requests for information (RFI), and requests for quotes (RFQ).
- Continuously looks for and implements improvements that drive process efficiencies in grant submissions.
- Completes other duties as requested by supervisor.
Requirements/Minimum Qualifications
- B.S degree in chemistry, biology or related field and a minimum of 4 years of relevant writing experience. Willing to train if no experience in these scientific fields.
- Exceptional writing skills with the ability to write and edit within the context of grant guidelines.
- Demonstrated technical and scientific writing experience as it applies to winning proposal development.
- Demonstrated ability to translate complex scientific terminology and concepts for lay audiences.
- Excellent planning and organizational skills; ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks/projects is essential.
- Strong interpersonal skills to effectively manage grant process with multiple collaborators.
- The ability to succeed under pressure in a deadline-driven environment, both independently and as part of a team.
- Demonstrated ability to use Microsoft Office products, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint and other relevant software.
- Proven ability to work in a collaborative team environment.
- Experience writing RFPs, RFQs, and RFIs.
- Scientific background.
- Working knowledge of MS Project.
