We are seeking an experienced General Counsel specialising in Commercial/Construction law to join our client.
You will serve as a strategic legal advisor to the global leadership team, leading a team of 4 Legal Professionals , and providing expert legal advice on complex matters, ensuring compliance, and mitigating risks across all levels of the organisation.
Key Responsibilities:
- Act as a trusted legal advisor to the global leadership team, providing expert guidance on legal matters related to construction and engineering industry, including EPC (Engineering, Procurement, and Construction) contracts, design agreements, environmental health and safety (EHS) processes, labour agreements, and subcontractor agreements.
- Lead and mentor a team of four legal professionals, fostering a collaborative and high-performance work environment.
- Advise senior management on corporate risk management strategies, ensuring alignment with the company’s long-term objectives and industry best practices.
- Oversee and advise on regulatory matters involving state and federal agencies, including the NLRB, OSHA, and EEOC.
- Ensure the company’s compliance with all relevant US laws and regulations, particularly those applicable to the construction industry.
- Draft, review, and negotiate complex legal documents, including shareholder agreements, ERISA management records, and other contracts affecting company operations.
- Ensure all legal documents comply with industry standards and US legal requirements.
- Lead and manage complex legal projects, ensuring they are completed on time and meet the company’s strategic objectives.
- Provide counsel on a wide range of industry related legal issues, including environmental, intellectual property, and other commercial matters.
Qualifications:
- Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
- At least 10 years of post-qualification experience, with a significant focus on the construction and engineering sectors.
- Must be licensed and in good standing in State.
- Experience in a leadership role within a legal department, preferably in a construction or engineering environment.
- Extensive knowledge of US laws and regulations.
- Proven track record of drafting, reviewing, and negotiating complex legal agreements.
- Strong understanding of corporate governance, regulatory compliance, and risk management practices.
- Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to provide clear and concise legal advice to senior management and the global leadership team.
