Reports to: Charge Nurse
Job Purpose: The State Tested Nurse Aide (STNA)is responsible for providing direct care to residents of the nursing facility under the supervision of licensed nurses. The STNA assists residents with activities of daily living (ADLs), such as bathing, dressing, grooming, and eating, and helps them maintain their independence and dignity. The STNA also performs other duties as assigned by the Nursing Supervisor.
Key Responsibilities:
Assist residents with ADLs, including bathing, dressing, grooming, and eating, according to their care plans and preference.
Assist with mobility and transfers, using appropriate techniques and equipment.
Help residents with toileting and incontinence care, maintaining their privacy and dignity.
Serve meals and snacks to residents, following dietary guidelines and residents' preferences.
Document care provided and observations made in residents' medical records, using appropriate terminology and abbreviations.
Communicate with residents and their families in a professional and compassionate manner.
Report any changes in residents' conditions or behaviors to the Nursing Supervisor promptly.
Assist with cleaning and maintaining residents' rooms and common areas, following infection control policies and procedures.
Participate in training and educational programs as required by the facility and state regulations.
Adhere to the facility's policies and procedures and to the Nurse Practice Act and other applicable laws and regulations.
Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent.
Current certification as a Nurse Aide in the state where the facility is located.
Good communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to follow written and verbal instructions and to work independently as well as part of a team.
Ability to lift, push, pull, and carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
Ability to stand, walk, bend, and reach for extended periods of time.
Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays, as required by the facility.
Working Conditions:
The State Tested Nurse Aide works in a healthcare environment that involves direct contact with residents who may have communicable diseases, behavioral issues, or other conditions that require special attention. The STNA may be exposed to unpleasant odors, sights, and sounds, and may be required to handle bodily fluids and waste products. The STNA may be required to work under stressful conditions and to respond to emergencies quickly and effectively.
Physical Requirements:
The State Tested Nurse Aide must be able to perform the physical demands of the job, including lifting, pushing, pulling, and carrying objects weighing up to 50 pounds, standing, walking, bending, and reaching for extended periods of time.
