Position Overview: The Assembly Foreman is responsible for overseeing the operations within the large assembly, small assembly, paint, and electrical departments. This role involves coordinating with planning and scheduling teams, training and developing employees, and driving continuous improvement initiatives using Six Sigma and Lean methodologies.
Key Responsibilities:
Team Management:
Supervise and develop a team of 15-20 non-exempt employees, providing training and performance feedback.
Ensure each team member meets or exceeds performance expectations and is prepared for internal advancement opportunities.
Production Optimization:
Enhance production processes for both standard and custom products to maximize efficiency and minimize waste.
Monitor production updates and address build issues to keep internal and external customers informed of any potential delays.
Process Improvement:
Collaborate with Engineering and Manufacturing Engineering teams to improve design, drawings, and manufacturing processes.
Implement and maintain continuous improvement initiatives through Lean, Six Sigma, and other methodologies, targeting completion of at least one project per month.
Reporting and Metrics:
Generate and maintain reports on production output, quality metrics, and labor efficiency.
Ensure adherence to key metrics, including customer on-time delivery (90%+), direct hour absorption (80%+), work center efficiency (75%-125%), and overall equipment effectiveness (90%+).
Scheduling and Coordination:
Oversee work and kitting queues to maintain job schedules and achieve work center on-time delivery goals (95%).
Work with other department foremen to resolve issues and ensure product quality and timely shipment.
Safety and Compliance:
Enforce safety rules and regulations, and investigate incidents to maintain a safe and clean work environment, aiming for zero injuries.
Conduct regular audits to ensure compliance with 6S initiatives and maintain departmental safety and efficiency standards.
Key Contacts:
Plant Manager: Receive direction, feedback, and performance evaluations; discuss daily assignments.
Assembly Leads: Provide direction, feedback, and developmental resources; address critical issues and changes.
Engineering Team: Resolve build process issues and recommend design changes.
Other Department Foremen and Supervisors: Collaborate to resolve nonconformance issues and optimize throughput.
Sales Team: Clarify and solve manufacturing and order-related issues.
QC Inspector: Ensure all units meet specifications and requirements.
Assembler & Painters: Assign work, provide oversight, and training.
Takeoff/Scheduling: Communicate changes and adjustments to the schedule.
Qualifications:
Education: Associate’s degree in a related field or 8 years of directly related experience.
Experience:Minimum of 5 years in a supervisory or lead role with mechanical assembly experience.
Skills:
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to assemble and troubleshoot mechanical products.
Proficient in reading blueprints and using hand/power tools.
Basic proficiency with PC-based technology and data collection.
Capability to multitask in a dynamic environment.
Work Environment and Physical Requirements:
Work Environment: Exposure to fumes, airborne particles, moving mechanical parts, and varying temperatures. The noise level can be high.
Physical Requirements:
Continuous standing.
Frequent handling, reaching, and repetitive hand use.
Occasional bending, overhead reaching, crouching, kneeling, lifting up to 50 pounds, and effective communication.
