ChristianaCare is currently seeking a full-time RN Senior Clinical Data Quality Specialist to support the Cancer Thoracic Surgeons at the Helen F. Graham Center located in Newark, DE.
This person will lead, facilitate, and coordinate Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement (QAPI) through the management of one or more clinical registries within designated service line(s).
They will also serve as a quality professional leading and educating staff on the tools and strategies needed to drive continuous improvement. Collaborating with key stakeholders to assess and improve quality measures.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities
- Responsible for one or more clinical registries and its compliance with applicable external reporting criteria.
- Performs registry lead functions or operates at the highest level of the registry certification requirements.
- Identifies all cases that meet criteria for abstraction into the STS registry.
- Assess appropriate inclusion/exclusion of data based on defined data dictionary.
- Utilizes clinical expertise to abstract patient data relative to specific cases. Queries providers to clarify and prepare data as needed.
- Accountable for quality and integrity of outcome data. Proactively identifies issues with data collection methods in order to meet and/or exceed accreditation, regulatory, and institutional standards. Establishes, performs and ensures quality control checks for assigned database in conjunction with the Performance Improvement department of CCHS.
- Identifies, understands, communicates, and meets the Harvest schedule for the STS database.
- Keeps current on the regulatory requirements and other changes within the registry. Communicates changes to key stakeholders
- Meets or exceeds the established timeframe to abstract appropriate records.
- Identifies trends, concerns, opportunities in the data through abstraction process or published reports and presents this information to Thoracic Surgery team.
- Reconciles and resolves any discrepancies within abstracted data. Reports findings in a timely fashion to key stakeholders.
- Provides education and guidance on the appropriate inclusion/exclusion of data based on defined data dictionary; Supports committees, teams, and leadership with data collection, analysis, and identification of trends, benchmarks, and variances in data.
- Develops and implements data validation methodologies for both external and internal quality data.
- Develops and implements workflows to support new/expanded registries.
- Works with members of the quality team, Service Line leadership and Office of Quality and Patient Safety to identify and close gaps in care
- Prepares routine and ad hoc reports that present data in an understandable and actionable format to support strategic initiatives. Provides teaching and counseling to select patients and families.
- Performs concise case reviews on adverse outcomes (defined within the clinical registry) and prepares Event Reports, as applicable.
- Collaborates in the review of educational materials.
- Monitors and manages performance improvement trends and opportunities from accountability reports and ensures follow-through. Maintains a collaborative professional working relationship and attends routine meetings with key stakeholders within the Service Line and the Office of Quality and Patient Safety.
- Performs assigned work safely, adhering to established departmental safety rules and practices; reports to supervisor, in a timely manner, any unsafe activities, conditions, hazards, or safety violations that may cause injury to oneself, other employees, patients and visitors.
- Performs special projects and other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience Requirements
- Bachelor of Nursing Degree from an accredited school required; Master's Degree preferred.
- At least three (3) years of related Thoracic Surgery, Surgical or Oncology nursing experience required
- An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted.
Special Requirements
- BLS certification required
- Registered Nurse required
