The Compounding Lab Manager supports the global strategy of the Molding Compounds Medical Market and Automotive segment. This position plays a critical role in the continued growth in Americas and the eventual global expansion. They provide expertise in compounding and molding activities. In this role you will be the go-to expert for compounding, supporting product and application development incl. upscaling and transfer to production
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Support the process and application development for new acrylic compounds. You are the expert.
- Supervise Workshop technician to operate and maintain molding, extrusion, and ancillary equipment.
- Mold, compound or extrude materials for the Technical Department in support of technical projects, marketing studies, or sales needs.
- Keep up to date on the latest innovations in compounding/extruding. Make recommendations regarding the capability of our equipment. Recommend new equipment/accessories as needed, with supporting technical evidence.
- Work closely with Technical group in Germany to align on best practices and transfer knowledge.
- Keep work instructions up to date and generate new ones as needed.
- Assist new product scale-up to the manufacturing environment
REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor's degree required, graduate degree preferred. Degree in the fields of plastic processing, polymer/material science, or chemical engineering required.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in polymer processing (compounding, injection molding)
- Experience in polymer characterization – particularly rheology and mechanical properties
- Willingness to work with machinery (this is a hands-on position)
- Experience with compounding equipment is a must.
- Experience with injection molding is also required.
- Experience with processes like thermoforming or extrusion a plus.
- Statistical knowledge or DOE experience
- Ability to work productively in a team environment; experience in people management is a plus.
- Good written communication skills.
- Good software skills with Microsoft Office Suite: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook. SAP experience a plus.
