Our client, a company within the energy/utilities sector, is searching for a Planning Specialist. This role entails overseeing and directing economic analyses related to the Company’s electric systems. Responsibilities include forecasting total system fuel and purchased power costs, managing unit production, and handling fuel procurement needs for natural gas and coal. The Specialist will also provide crucial support for regulatory proceedings and business plan development, and will make pricing and regulatory decisions that impact company policy and revenue.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct complex, multidisciplinary research and analysis to support resource planning activities.
- Manage and execute computer models that support major resource decisions.
- Prepare and communicate written summaries of resource modeling inputs and results.
- Perform ad-hoc market analysis to support resource investment, acquisition, and commercial transactions.
- Participate in meetings and proceedings with stakeholders, providing technical input and representing modeling assumptions and analysis.
- Serve as an expert witness in regulatory proceedings.
- Facilitate workshops and interpret analysis results for team members, management, and external stakeholders.
- Coordinate, mentor, and train junior staff.
- Ensure full compliance with all relevant policies, codes, and regulations applicable to the position and the company.
Required Skills:
- Bachelor’s degree
- 8-12 years of experience in utility production cost modeling
- Proficiency in energy supply fundamentals and understanding of regional market behaviors
- Familiarity with various modeling, analytical, statistical, monitoring, or reporting software
- Knowledge of generation, transmission, gas transportation, wholesale power markets, and environmental regulation
- Strong quantitative skills
- Project Management abilities
