Detention Officer - Farmville, VA
Responsible for following the policies, procedures, and posting orders for the assigned post they are working; Responsible for the health and welfare of the entire detainee population; Responsible for responding to and handling emergency situations; Responsible for supervising the detainee population as they participate in all types of activities.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Must search for and identify contraband items.
- Must be familiar with the detainee handbook and the 2011 Performance Based National Detention (February 2013 Erata) and American
- Correctional Association standards.
- Must be able to respond to body alarms and other crisis situations that will require immediate responses to such alarms.
- Must search and apply different types of restraints.
- Must inventory and account for property.
- Be efficient in report writing.
- Detention Officers may be required to work in other areas as requested by management.
- Detention Officers must be able to work a minimum of 12-hour shifts, which may require long periods of standing at times.
- Detention Officers may be required to run, stoop, crouch, bend, or lift up to 50 lbs. of weight involving detainee property or other.
- Detention Officers must be able to withstand the use of and exposure to OC Pepper Spray during training, during crisis situations and at other times during their employment.
- Other duties as assigned.
