We are seeking a meticulous and detail-oriented Payroll Specialist to join our team, ensuring our payroll processes are executed flawlessly and efficiently.
Position Overview:
Reporting to the VP of Human Resources, the Payroll Specialist will be responsible for the accurate and timely processing of payroll for our multi-state brand. This role will manage various payroll-related tasks, ensure compliance with federal and state regulations, and provide excellent service to our employees. The ideal candidate will have experience in the following:
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Enter, maintain, and/or process information in the payroll system; information may include employees’ hourly rates, salaries, commissions, bonuses, other compensation, time worked, paid leave and holidays, deductions and withholding, address changes, and other information.
- Ensure proper processing of payroll deductions for taxes, benefits, charitable contributions, and other deductions.
- Reconcile payroll to the general ledger.
- Issue or reissue physical or replacement checks or direct deposits due to payroll errors or final discharge.
- Record and process federal and state payroll tax deposits.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Continuously evaluate and improve payroll processes and procedures, including assessing federal and state trends such as tax changes.
- Research and resolve manager and/or employee questions related to payroll information such as paid time off, direct deposit, garnishments, employment verifications, tax questions, and other payroll-related issues.
- Support new HCM system implementation, including technical setup, data migration, user training, change management, expert consultation, and vendor assistance.
- Manage and process wage garnishments, ensuring compliance with legal requirements and accurate deductions.
- Administer and process bonus payments, ensuring accuracy and timely disbursement.
- Collaborate with unemployment vendor to ensure state tax setups are accurately established.
- Review incoming mail, take necessary actions, and ensure the appropriate person is informed for timely handling of items.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Exhibits a high sense of urgency and demonstrates strong follow-through capabilities.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
- Proficient in using payroll software systems; experience with Paycor is highly desirable
- Experience in the restaurant industry is preferred.

Education and Experience:
- Experience handling multi-state payroll, ensuring compliance with various state regulations
- Two years of experience in accounting or bookkeeping with at least six months of experience in payroll preferred.
Physical Requirements:
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
