Position:
Process Safety Engineer
Reports to:
Process Safety Superintendent
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Point of contact and Lead subject matter expert for multiple elements of PSM and RMP for the company.
- Coordinate and assist with the implementation of all elements of PSM and RMP at designated functional locations at the facility.
- Provide a service and develop solutions to reduce risks, adapt industry practices, and ensure compliance for all elements of PSM and RMP.
- Develop companywide PSM and RMP procedures, perform training, and ensure implementation.
- Assist in the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of PSM and RMP software.
- Compile data and reporting for the company’s process safety key performance indicator metrics.
- Provide technical direction related to required mechanical integrity elements.
- Provide regulatory interpretation, technical support, and advice on process safety and risk management matters.
- Advise on Recognized And Generally Accepted Good Engineering Practices (RAGAGEP).
- Identify process safety incidents and participate in or conduct root cause analysis as needed.
- Develop corrective actions and solutions to prevent or reduce the severity of process safety-related incidents by applying elimination, substitution, and engineering controls.
- Analyze incident trends and use risk assessment methods to identify improvement opportunities.
- Facilitate and participate in Process Hazard Analysis (PHA).
- Approve Management of Changes and participate in Pre-Startup Safety Reviews as needed.
- Participate in PSM and RMP audits as necessary.
- Provide technical and programmatic expertise involving the application of process safety requirements as defined by the company’s process safety program and regulatory agencies.
- Coordinate with regulatory agencies during audits of PSM and RMP.
Education, Experience, and Skills:
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Occupational Health and Safety or Chemical, Mechanical, or Safety Engineering.
- Certified Safety Professional (CSP) preferred.
- A minimum of five years of direct experience in a similar role of developing and implementing the elements of PSM and RMP.
- Working knowledge of PSM and RMP regulatory requirements.
- Aptitude to solve problems quickly.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Must have the ability to communicate effectively with employees from all levels of the organization.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Ability to learn/utilize new software systems.
- Must possess a TWIC or be eligible to obtain a TWIC.
- Team oriented
Physical Requirements:

- Regularly required to push, pull, bend, and perform long periods of standing and walking on cement foundations.
- Occasionally required to stoop and kneel.
- Must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
- Must be able to coordinate the movement of eyes, hands, feet, and fingers to operate tools and equipment.
- Required to be medically certified for respirator and medically fit for duty.
- Use of PPE required in specific areas.
- May be required to be outdoors in the plant.
