We are a leading automotive seating systems manufacturer, part of the Fortune 500 league, looking for a seasoned Materials Manager to join our Materials team. This role will have you overseeing the materials department in a lean, JIT environment, handling pre-production material control, material scheduling and release, bill of materials coordination, and transportation logistics.
What you'll be doing:
- Monitoring shipment plans from suppliers to ensure sufficient inventory.
- Analysing inventory levels, accuracy and assisting in resolving discrepancies.
- Establishing and maintaining communication to meet plant needs and coordinate with suppliers on quality, delivery, and other performance objectives.
- Working closely with other departments for data gathering, analysis, and continuous process improvement.
- Controlling Material department budgets, hiring and training staff.
- Enforcing safety rules and regulations, planning work assignments and equipment allocations.
- Resolving worker problems and interpreting transportation and tariff regulations, shipping orders, safety regulations, and company policies for workers.
- Coordinating physical inventory audits with accounting and maintaining good relationships with suppliers.
- Recommending and assisting in the implementation of unit goals and objectives, participating in budget preparation and administration.
- Maintaining and implementing departmental procedures to ensure compliance with TS16949 standards.
What you bring to the table:
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field and five years’ experience in logistics and materials planning.
- Knowledge of manufacturing process and its logics, principles and practices of inventory control, and warehousing operations.
- Knowledge of pertinent local, state, and federal laws, ordinances, and rules.
- Knowledge of business and management principles involved in strategic planning, resource allocation, and the coordination of people and resources.
- Knowledge of computerized inventory control and associated databases with particular emphasis on optimum storage space utilization.
- Ability to plan for forthcoming projects as well ensure smooth running of current/concurrent projects.
- Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing, train and evaluate assigned staff.
Bonus If You Have:
- Master’s degree in a related field
- Previous experience working in a JIT seating plant
- SAP experience preferred
