Job Overview:
The Manufacturing Engineer is responsible for process ownership, integration, and continuous improvement of assigned component parts and processes. This role involves driving safety, quality, productivity, and yield maximization goals through effective collaboration with Program Engineering, Quality Engineering, Maintenance, and Plant Management teams. The Manufacturing Engineer will lead multiple root cause and prevention initiatives, incorporate design for safety and human factors into processes, and implement Lean manufacturing principles to optimize results.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Own and improve manufacturing processes for assigned components, integrating engineering and operational excellence principles.
- Collaborate with Program Engineering and Quality Engineering teams to drive process improvements, ensuring safety, quality, and productivity.
- Lead root cause analysis initiatives to enhance workplace safety, product acceptance, and defect detection.
- Develop and implement FMEA, control plans, and operating instructions to ensure Quality Management System (QMS) compliance.
- Design and improve tooling, part retention, fixtures, presses, gauges, and instrumentation for manufacturing processes.
- Implement proven best practices across all common components and processes within the manufacturing enterprise.
- Collaborate with customer engineering resources to meet product specifications and quality goals.
- Prepare and submit process change documentation and supervise new product validation plans.
- Utilize Lean manufacturing principles, such as one-piece-flow and total productive maintenance, to streamline production systems.
- Mentor and train production and engineering staff, providing regular status reports to the Manufacturing Engineering Manager.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, business, technology, or physical science discipline, or equivalent experience.
- 5-10 years of proven experience in manufacturing engineering, focusing on process integration and improvement.
- Strong technical expertise in engineering mechanics, hydraulics, electronics, pneumatics, and machine design/operation.
- Proficiency in Lean manufacturing principles and tools, with at least 5 years of practical experience.
- Experience with FMEA, control plans, and tooling/gauging/workstation design.
- Solid understanding of automatic transmissions and internal combustion engines.
- High-level analytical and problem-solving abilities, with experience in root cause analysis.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD and advanced design tools for creating and developing tool design concepts.
Skills:
- Excellent communication skills for collaborating with front-line team members, customers, and executives.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, AutoCAD, and other relevant design and manufacturing software.
- Strong mathematical and statistical analysis skills for problem-solving and process improvement.
Physical and Environmental Requirements:
- Ability to perform tasks requiring standing, walking, stooping, kneeling, and lifting up to 30 pounds.
- Exposure to moving mechanical parts, fumes, airborne particles, and risk of electrical shock.
- Work in a moderate noise environment with occasional exposure to vibration.
