What does a day in life look like?
Mission: A Control Engineer is focused on maintaining optimal conditions during the production process. This includes ensuring a safe working environment, delivering high-quality products/processes, and achieving high-performance levels. It requires a multidisciplinary approach and effective communication to identify process improvement opportunities, use problem-solving methodologies, and propose solutions for improvements and technological innovations. To achieve these goals, control engineers follow guidelines from industry standards such as OSHA, IATF, MOS, and Others.
Objective: Apply Control Engineering knowledge and experience to Metalsa manufacturing processes while maintaining the safest environment possible, quality standards, and productivity to achieve optimal plant performance.
Essential Functions & Key Responsibilities:
- Comply with Environmental, Health, Safety, and Quality Systems guidelines (Responsibilities and authorities) currently applicable to the area and the entire plant.
- Follow the guidelines in the employee Handbook (Paid Time Off (PTO), training, FMLA, and labor affairs.)
- Compliance with internal control guidelines, audit and update practices & procedures, and respond to internal and external audits as needed or requested.
- Keep constant feedback with the Automation Coordinator.
- Seek continuous process improvement (productivity and profitability) through the application of engineering principles (Process redesign, new technologies, etc.).
- Contribute to define and follow the Standards for Control Engineering.
- Respond to the production process abnormalities (for example: production T-cards) while focusing on continuous process improvements.
- Execute CapEx projects within the stated scope, timing, budget, and resources as assigned.
- Create work instructions that benefit the Production and Controls Engineering Teams.
- Research new technologies and develop new applications that improve overall plant performance.
- Collaborate, lead, and/or support the design and implementation of new products, engineering changes, and processes.
Education & Experience:
- Certified Electronics/Electrical Engineer Technology or Industrial Engineer desirable.
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in manufacturing environments maintaining, troubleshooting, and improving automated processes.
Technical Skills:
- Lean manufacturing desirable
- Manufacturing Processes
- Project management desirable
- 2D software drawing (Drawing, Reading, etc.)
- Geometric and Dimensional Tolerancing (desired)
- Problem-solving tools (Experience applying problem-solving methodologies) and Critical thinking.
- Automated manufacturing troubleshooting (Control circuits, power circuits up to 480VAC, logic, motor control, robotics, etc.)
- PLC and HMI Software (RSLogix5, 500, 5000, Studio, Siemens S7, and PanelView)
- Robotic software and programming (ABB and Fanuc desirable)
- TwinCat, Beckhoff, and 2D Matrix and vision system (Cognex and DVT) preferred.
