We are seeking a skilled and motivated Battery Design Engineer to join their team and contribute to the design, development, and optimization of high-performance battery systems.
Position Overview:
As a Battery Design Engineer, you will work as part of a collaborative team focused on designing and developing battery systems tailored to the unique requirements of UAV and eVTOL applications. You will assist in creating efficient, reliable, and safe battery solutions that meet the stringent demands of the aerial mobility industry. Key Responsibilities:
- Battery Pack Design: Contribute to the design and development of battery packs, including cell selection, mechanical layout, thermal management, and electrical configuration under the guidance of senior engineers.
- Cell Characterization: Support the analysis and characterization of battery cells, including performance testing, life cycle analysis, and failure mode evaluation, to help select the optimal cells for various applications.
- Thermal Management: Assist in designing and implementing thermal management solutions to ensure battery packs operate within safe temperature ranges under various operating conditions.
- Mechanical Integration: Collaborate with mechanical engineers to design enclosures and mounting systems that ensure structural integrity, ease of assembly, and compliance with weight and space constraints.
- Safety and Compliance: Support the development and implementation of safety protocols within battery designs to meet industry standards and regulatory requirements, including overcharge protection, thermal runaway prevention, and short-circuit protection.
- Prototyping and Testing: Participate in the prototyping and testing of battery designs, including contributing to test plans, execution of tests, and analysis of results to validate performance and safety.
- Optimization and Innovation: Work with the team to explore new materials, technologies, and design approaches to improve battery performance, reduce weight, and increase energy density.
- Collaboration: Collaborate closely with electrical, thermal, and systems engineering teams to ensure seamless integration of battery systems into UAV and eVTOL platforms.
- Documentation: Assist in creating and maintaining detailed design documentation, technical specifications, and testing reports for battery systems.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a related field.
- Experience or internship experience in battery design and development, particularly for high-performance applications such as UAVs, eVTOLs, automotive, or aerospace industries.
- Strong understanding of lithium-ion battery chemistry, battery pack design, and thermal management strategies.
- Proficiency with CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, CATIA) and simulation tools (e.g., ANSYS, COMSOL) for mechanical and thermal analysis.
- Experience with battery testing equipment and methods, including environmental chambers, cyclers, and thermal cameras.
- Knowledge of relevant safety standards and regulations (e.g., UN 38.3, IEC 62133, UL 1642) is a plus.
- Strong problem-solving skills, with a focus on learning, innovation, and optimization.
- Effective communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to work well in a multidisciplinary environment.
