Location: FLORIDA – Applicants DO NOT need to be located only within the Tampa area. Sea & Shoreline has projects throughout the entire state, but has hubs in Crystal River, FL as well as Ruskin, FL.
Travel: Willingness and ability to travel up to 4 nights per week
Experience: Previous work experience in various Florida environments (including in-water work) and a degree in marine science, biology, environmental science, or a similar field is preferred
Physical Requirements: Must be able to spend long days outside in all types of Florida weather. Must be a strong swimmer, SCUBA certification is preferred, or willingness to get certified within 90 days of hire.
Must be able to lift heavy objects up to 60 lbs. Must be comfortable working underwater in all conditions (salt, fresh, poor visibility, etc).
Boating and trailering experience highly preferred. Please specify if you meet this requirement when applying.
Job Description:
Sea & Shoreline is seeking the help of a hard-working individual to assist our biology team in field work and day to day operations.
Responsibilities will include assisting biologists with in-water restoration projects, generating reports, and day to day operations. Candidates should be comfortable working on/ in the water and spending long days outside in all Florida weather conditions. Candidates should be comfortable swimming in all types of water (previous experience is preferred). Candidates with technical writing skills and the ability to generate basic scientific monitoring reports, and data analysis skills preferred. Candidates should possess adequate Microsoft Word, Excel, and Power Point skills. Candidates should be able, or willing to learn, to operate boats and other small watercrafts. Candidates may be asked to travel up to four nights/week (travel expenses are reimbursed).
A typical day working as a field biologist for Sea & Shoreline may range anywhere from sitting at a computer copying field data into Excel, to hours under or on the water, operating a 30 ft. barge on a seagrass restoration project. Although we specialize in seagrass, we possess the equipment, skills, and expertise to take on any aquatic restoration/ mitigation project. We are currently working all throughout the state of Florida from the panhandle to the Keys. Our methods are deeply rooted in scientific principles.
