Laboratory Technician
This is an experienced Laboratory position that analyzes samples of crude oil, petroleum products and water for operational control and QA/QC of refinery processes. A wide variety of lab equipment is used, most of which follow ASTM procedures. This position must collect product samples, some of which will be hot, some vaporous; collection may be at all times of day and weather conditions. Job often requires you to be on your feet for hours at a time and shift focus between tasks quickly. This position interfaces with refinery operations personnel daily. Adherence to testing/sampling procedures and integrity of lab data is critical to master.
Schedule:
Base Schedule will be 40 hrs per week Monday - Friday. Overtime should be expected and will be required at times.
Key Responsibilities:
- Always adhere to laboratory & refinery safety requirements and keep work area clean.
- Maintain mental alertness to ensure safe and accurate performance of their duties and notify supervisor of any unsafe conditions.
- Proficiently operate laboratory instruments to analyze samples utilizing written procedures.
- Accurately enter analytical data into LIMS to ensure timely dissemination to other departments.
- Communicate testing anomalies or procedure deviations to lab staff and/or supervisor so analytical integrity can be verified.
- Other duties as assigned.
Basic requirements:
Education:
Any combination of education and experience providing the required skill and knowledge for successful performance would be qualifying. Must be capable of reading a written procedure to obtain and retain a basic understanding of the analysis. Typical qualifications would be comparable to High School diploma or equivalent with two years’ experience in a directly related analytical laboratory environment or 12 semester hours of Chemistry.
Experience:
Two years of experience in a directly related analytical or quality control laboratory is highly desirable. Familiarity of ASTM procedures for petroleum product testing would be very helpful. Proficiency with Microsoft Office and LIMS (particularly ThermoFisher’s Sample Manager) is very desirable.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Minimum of 2 years working in a refinery environment.
- TWIC card, passed drug test and background check is required.
