The Director of Finance will manage and oversee a variety of administrative and accounting duties and personnel in order to maintain accurate Firm financial and client accounting records and reports as well as participate in and support the Firm’s strategic planning initiatives. This individual is under the direct supervision of the Chief Operating Officer and will support the COO with accounting-related assignments and communicate with attorneys and clients regarding accounting-related issues.
Director of Finance Responsibilities:
- With the direction of the COO, manages those in the accounting department, performs annual reviews and evaluations, and continually works with managers for individual growth and development.
- Assists the CEO, COO, and the Firm’s Board of Directors with financial analytics.
- Works directly with Firm’s practice area leaders and other legal personnel, and all levels of the Firm’s personnel.
- Coordinates yearly Firm audit and tax preparation.
- Coordinates budget preparation, review, input, and analysis.
- Prepares monthly reports for Office Partner Meetings, Area Chairs, and Admin team.
- Oversight of monthly GL reconciliations.
- Coordinates quarterly budget meetings.
- Updates plan to spread and other monthly spreadsheets.
- Supervises A/P invoice and expense reporting processes.
- Approves NBI forms for Firm.
- Approves compensation reports for Contract Attorneys.
- Prepares amortization schedules for clients and attorneys.
- Oversees and approves wire transfers, ACH, and stop payments.
- Administrator of banking and credit card portals.
- Prepares quarterly covenant information.
- Oversees wire transfers into the Operating and Trust accounts.
- Manages the Finance Committee.
- Acts as backup to the COO and all managers in the department.
- Assists with accounting questions and issues.
Director of Finance Requirements:
- B.S. or B.A. in accounting or finance.
- Certified Public Accounting is desirable.
- Minimum five years of experience with at least three years of manager or supervisory experience. Law firm experience is a plus.
- Demonstrated initiative, self-motivation, and management skills.
- Proficiency in the Firm’s software and hardware including 3E, Chrome River, Excel, Word, 10-Key by touch, and Outlook.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills; demonstrate clear and concise knowledge of business English in all written and verbal communications.
- Ability to organize and prioritize numerous tasks and complete them under time constraints; strong organizational skills.
- Demonstrates responsiveness, tact, diplomacy, good judgment, and confidentiality in communications with all levels of personnel, clients, and outside vendors.
- Strong commitment to the Accounting Department as a customer service function within the Firm, and ability to operate effectively and cooperatively within the Accounting Department to enable the department to function cohesively and to provide excellent customer service within the Firm.
