Summary: The VP of Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) will report to the Senior Vice President of Operations and contributes to the success of the company by enabling EHS risk management in the dynamic industry of warehousing and transportation. The EHS VP has responsibility to anticipate EHS issues, assure risk management processes are applied, coach capabilities into the regional teams, analyze incident data, and develop actionable solutions. The successful candidate will be an EHS leader for the company and be able to engage, motivate, and align the Division towards designated local EHS objectives, as well as be a part of the development, recommendation, and implementation of Sector EHS policies and procedures
Key Responsibilities:
- Coach, develop and lead a team of direct reports within the EHS field organization in the execution of the Global EHS Management System across the North America DDC locations
- Lead implementation of program elements/tools to ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local OSHA/EPA/DOT regulations and applicable company requirements (i.e. Lockout, Haz Com, Machine Safety, SARA, RCRA, DOT, etc.)
- Provide technical and regulatory expertise in developing EHS continuous improvement processes and determining needed follow up activities associated with EHS incidents, agency inspections, and/or internal/external audits
- Assist in the development of the strategic EHS annual operating plans, assess field location performance in relation to the EHS vision/plan, and determine necessary course corrections in order to achieve plan
- Conduct periodic site visits and EHS activities such as training/auditing/assessing to ensure ongoing compliance with regulatory agency requirements, company Management System standards, and internal EHS procedures
- Execute projects related to overall EHS plan deployment, understand key performance indicators, benchmark amongst DDC NA locations to determine target location opportunities, and overall work hand-in-hand with the VP’s, Sr. Dir’s, Sr. Dir HR, Field EHS team members, and other like key location Leadership to reduce EHS risk across the organization
- Develop and perform risk assessments and assist in the implementation of effective physical and/ or behavioral control measures. Recognize and verify the effectiveness of in-place control measures
- Identify unsafe equipment operation and conditions while demonstrating knowledge of appropriate corrective action for unsafe conditions or equipment use, in a collaborative thought leader approach.
- Participate in the development of leading and lagging Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) that deliver best in class EHS performance and demonstrate a high level of urgency around needed EHS paradigm culture shift change
- Analyze key EHS data and help develop prevention plans to address process or risks gaps. Think strategically and ensure EHS Performance plans are timely, achievable, and performance based
- Exercise a leadership, coordination, and communication role with the internal EHS organization, as well as other business partners such as Engineering, Human Resources, Operations, and M&W businesses to drive continuous EHS improvement across the organization
- Define and analyze data trends and EHS performance to ensure that the right priorities are identified and acted upon for the organization.
- Coach leaders at all levels within the organization and use strong influencing skills around EHS goals/values and that a strong EHS culture ensures business productivity targets can be met
- Identify issues, coach and lead field locations in development of a corrective action plan to address root basic causes and management system weak-spots using industry-recognized cause analysis techniques (5-Why, 8-D, etc.)
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Manufacturing, Environmental, Safety or related field preferred
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in a warehousing/distribution/fleet as a Senior EHS professional
- Extensive knowledge and experience with EHS Management systems and their deployment
- Demonstrated ability to manage multi state EHS regulations, programs, and people
- Understands and can articulate EHS requirements and regulations
- Post graduate EHS qualifications desirable
- CSP, CIH, CHMM, and/or PE desirable
- Ability to:
- lead, supervise, manage and develop individuals and high-performance teams
- handle multiple priorities and meet critical deadlines
- travel up to 50% (dependent on business needs and fluctuation)
Compensation:
- $120,000 - $180,000 base salary
