The Opportunity
The Vice President of Hospice Operations is responsible for the clinical and operational oversight of all assigned locations to provide the highest quality care for hospice patients and their families, financial achievement of established goals, strategic initiatives for growth, and clinical and regulatory compliance, as well as overall direction of the hospice services. This role will collaborate regularly and closely with the CEO and COO in the overall management, policies, procedures, and controls necessary to ensure effective and efficient operations of their assigned programs. The VP Ops will also establish, implement, and evaluate goals and objectives for hospice services that meet and promote the highest quality of care and contribute to the total organization and philosophy.
The VP Ops will provide effective and inspiring leadership mentorship, and delegation to strengthen performance, share best practices, and drive accountability. This individual will lead an effective team of high performing leadership and team members to the next level by further developing and implementing effective recruitment, training, disciplinary, retention, and succession strategies.
Responsibilities
- Promote and practice the philosophy and mission: to provide the most compassionate, comprehensive, and qualified care to people with a life-limiting illness to serve them through their individual journey with dignity, respect, and integrity.
- Develop and implement strategic plans that meet established business goals and objectives created in partnership with the Board of Directors.
- Manage the planning, budgeting, and monitoring of business operations to secure financial stability.
- Recruit and develop a team of senior leaders to manage critical business functions.
- Implement operational policies and procedures to accomplish identified outcomes.
- Evaluate hospice services and personnel using measurable actionable outcomes and objectives.
- Establish a structure and systems that ensure interdisciplinary care is provided.
- Ensure commitment and compliance with applicable laws and regulations across the organization.
- Ensure hospice personnel stay current with local, state, and national clinical information, practices, regulations, issues, and trends.
- Maintain adequate and appropriate staffing.
- Ensure staff development including orientation, in-service, continuing education, competency testing, and quality assessment performance improvement.
- Develop positive relationships with key stakeholders, including shareholders and government agencies.
- Proactively address challenges in the internal and external environment to protect business interests.
- Develop and maintain a culture of support to equip personnel in achieving their discipline-specific goals.
- Coordinate with other departments, services, and senior management.
Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science or Master’s Degree in Nursing, or other clinical specialty, Healthcare Administration, or Business Administration;
- RN strongly preferred but not required.
- Minimum 10-12 years of related experience, preferably hospice multi-site management experience.
- Possess a professional and resourceful style; having the ability to work independently and as team player, to take initiative, and to manage multiple tasks and projects at the same time.
- Knowledge of hospice regulations and Medicare conditions of participation.
- Excellent communication and teaching skills required.
- The VP of Operations will need to be on-site 60-75% of the time.
