Position Overview
Reporting to the President & COO, the Maintenance and Engineering Manager will have rich expertise and deep experience in understanding machinery, old and new technologies. This technological leader will lead a team of 12 to maintain operational excellence and provide greater efficiencies through maintenance and purchase of new equipment. This position is located in Baltimore. Travel is minimal.
Specific responsibilities include:
• Lead day to day operations for the Maintenance and Engineering department.
• Provide leadership & development for the team of mechanic, machinists and technicians. Lead by example by providing direction, inspiration, and challenge by guiding activities pertinent to Safety; Machine Care & Maintenance; Quality; and Productivity.
• Engage the team in identifying and implementing continuous improvement initiatives that are aligned with strategic objectives and key performance indicators to drive accountability and results.
• Develop positive relationships with internal constituents and support teams including Sales, Production Planning, R&D, Human Resources, and Finance. o Build an empowered, engaged, and high performing team by recruiting and developing top talent. A coach and mentor who seeks to share knowledge and grow talent across the organization by creating development experiences that will grow next generation leaders.
• Work closely with QC to ensure equipment and site compliance with company, state and federal regulatory guidelines, Food Safety (SQF2) requirements and Third-Party Audits.
• Plan and direct maintenance activities and establish priorities for Preventive Maintenance in keeping with effective operations and cost factors.
Experience and Education
• At least 10 years of maintenance and engineering experience, preferably in a CPG/Food manufacturer. Confections a plus
• Proven experience managing complex multidisciplinary team of machinist, engineers, mechanics, and technicians.
• Track record of building and training a multidisciplinary maintenance/machinist and future team members with engineering skills.
• Robust experience in maintaining and building equipment along with execution of successful capital projects.
( This includes designing and purchasing new equipment to expand and or replace lines, troubleshooting and maintaining existing equipment, maintaining communications with internal and external suppliers and contractors, managing project schedules, identifying risks and costs and maintaining a budget all while fostering continuous improvement. )
• Ability to build relationships and manage suppliers and subcontractors.
• Experience in budgeting, tracking costs, analyzing data, and developing action plans.
• Ability to initiate and implement continuous improvement projects addressing process efficiency; product costs and performance/output in response to operational objectives; budget parameters; and customer demands.
• A Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or equivalent OR a combination of relevant education and work experience.
