Job Purpose:
The Orthopedic Surgeon will treat most muscle and skeletal problems including arthritis, congenital deformities, or trauma injuries. They provide medical care by performing physical exams, designing treatment and therapeutic plans, and keeping track of patient progress to determine what needs to be done. They often perform sports surgeries, joint replacement surgery, and repair fractures in bones.
The surgeon may be in charge of the entire orthopedic department including the physician’s assistants, nurses, and surgery technicians. They will assign assistants and technicians to specific duties and surgeries and make sure everyone is taking part in helping the department to operate smoothly.
Duties:
- Examines, diagnoses, and treats and performs surgeries for patients with disorders, malformations, diseases, and injuries to the musculoskeletal system.
- Prescribes course of treatment for patients with injuries, disorders, or malformations and performs required surgery.
- Conducts and supervises direct patient care.
- Plans and executes disease prevention and health promotion programs.
- Exercises command of medical units as provided by law and regulations.
- Conduct medical research on new injuries or diseases, and conducts, supervises, and participates in medical education and training of other medical personnel.
- Participates in on-call schedule in a responsive and timely manner.
- Maintains CME units based on the requirements of the specifying Board.
- Maintains historical records by documenting symptoms, medications, and treatment events and writing summaries.
- Enhances department and organization reputation by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests and exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments.
Job Requirements:
- MD or DO and successful 5-year orthopaedic surgical residency.
- Board-Certified orthopaedic surgeon and state licensure.
- 3+ years’ experience as an orthopaedic surgeon.
- Proven success with relevant surgical procedures and non-surgical treatments.
