Job purpose
The Finance Director is responsible for all financial aspects of the company and will be a key strategic partner to the President and executives. The role is expected to identify, develop, and implement best practices, while developing and maintaining positive relationships with employees, banks, investment institutions, auditors, and accounting firms. Moreover, the position will ensure that all Finance staff provide outstanding customer service with the objective of achieving business targets. The Finance Director will be charged with supervision, training, and review of work of all Finance staff, as well as developing financial models to project future growth of the business.
Duties and responsibilities
- Develop and implement financial strategies to achieve Transportation One’s financial goals and objectives. Monitor standard and ad hoc reports to ensure accounting standards are met, both internally and externally.
- Lead, manage, and build departmental capacity through the following people functions: talent acquisition, performance management, conflict resolution, training and development, and succession planning.
- Prepare analysis and projections of the company's financial position, operating budget, and cash flow. This includes but is not limited to income and expense reports, balance sheets, treasury activity, forecasts, overages, deficits to budget (monthly, quarterly and annually), and long-range plans. Make primary recommendations to the executive team governing all financial and accounting activity.
- Collaborate effectively across all levels of the business to achieve departmental and organizational objectives.
- Build financial models that will help support business strategies and decisions for capital expenditures, investments, and growth.
- Mitigate potential risk and identify opportunities to increase profitability and organizational value.
- Identify investment opportunities, potential mergers and acquisitions, and subsequent integration activities.
- Monitor large volumes of financial transactions (loads) to ensure compliance with accounting standards.
- Create financial KPIs and related reports to guide quality internal discussion and decision-making.
- Provide financial oversight of employee related programs, benefits, and costs including but not limited to, payroll, medical insurance, 401K plan, workers’ compensation insurance, and unemployment insurance.
- Maintain compliance with federal, state, and local and relevant financial regulations.
- Establish and maintain payroll systems and integrations, and handle all respective tax registrations with federal, state and local governmental agencies.
- Collaborate with Human Resources to establish employee policies, procedures, and benefit plans that maximize employee value, while controlling company costs.
- Manage outside accountants and other consultants with respect to tax planning and the filing of tax returns for Company.

Qualifications
- Ten years Director level or higher financial leadership in a growth-oriented business.
- Proven leadership skills, personal integrity, and ability to deliver results.
- Well-developed written and verbal communication skills, including experience delivering presentations to executive teams.
- Demonstrated ability in evaluating and pursuing M&A opportunities, including due diligence and integration.
- Strong analytical abilities, including expert level Excel and/ or Google Sheets experience.
- Experience building financial models and presentation of strategies.
- Transportation brokerage / 3PL experience preferred.
- In-depth knowledge of accounting standards and GAAP principles.
- Working knowledge of raising capital beyond traditional line of credit.
- Master’s degree in accounting, finance, business administration, or other related discipline. CPA and / or CFA is strongly preferred.
- A combination of the above shall be considered.
Working conditions
General office environment. Work is generally sedentary in nature, but may require standing and walking for up to 10% of the time. The working environment is generally favorable. Lighting and temperature are adequate, and there are no hazardous or unpleasant conditions caused by noise, dust, etc. Work is generally performed within an office environment, with standard equipment available.
