Our client is looking for a Controls and Automation Engineer to join their growing team in Houston, TX. This opportunity is a Direct Hire role that comes with several perks including full benefits, 401K with match, paid holidays, and paid time off.
Successful candidates must pass a five year background, MVR check, drug screening, and have an active drivers license for this position.
Key Responsibilities:
- Technology Support: Collaborate with subject matter experts to gain proficiency in new technology products and perform inspections, services, and repairs on drilling rig control systems.
- System Management: Update software and firmware on PLCs, switches, routers, HMIs, VFDs, and generator controls; install and commission new EcoCell and Cortex systems.
- Troubleshooting & Training: Diagnose electrical and systems-based issues both remotely and on-site; develop and conduct training for operational crews on preventative maintenance and repairs.
- Project Oversight: Supervise maintenance projects on the rig, manage inventories of critical hardware, and coordinate with vendors for spare parts.
Key Qualifications and Skills:
- Technical Expertise: Strong knowledge of electrical theory and components (PLCs, VFDs, HMIs), proficiency with electrical tools (oscilloscopes, voltmeters), and ability to read electrical schematics. Omron/Amphion Controls and experience with Yaskawa, GE, and ABB VFD systems is highly preferred.
- Experience: 3+ years of relevant work experience with electrical and controls-based systems. Degree may serve in lieu of experience for recent graduates.
- Interpersonal Skills: Strong communication abilities for effective interaction with coworkers, customers, and third parties. Willingness to travel to remote locations as needed.
