Riggs Industries is seeking an Associate Vice President of Engineering to support the company's construction businesses, including Lincoln Contracting and Equipment, Somerset Steel Erection, and James A. Redding Company. This individual will oversee the engineering efforts in the construction divisions of Riggs Industries, with core capabilities including industrial contracting, process piping, steel fabrication, and erection, and bulk material handling systems. The Associate VP of Construction Engineering will oversee a team of engineers, designers, and drafters responsible for the engineering design and detailing of steel structures and mechanical equipment in industrial, commercial, and civil applications in fields including mining, chemical processing, shipbuilding, port facilities, power generation, health care, and local, state, and federal government. The VP will oversee all engineering activity, both internal and external, to support the fabrication and erection of a growing number of projects efficiently and on schedule.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Establishes and implements a culture of engineering excellence and effective production.
- Responsible for producing accurate drawings for shop fabrication and on-site erection.
- Collaborates with the company's construction leadership to meet organizational goals while supplying expertise and guidance on projects, operations, and systems.
- Ensures that projects are completed within budget and in an economical manner.
- Oversees the preparation and final approval of engineering project plans.
- Ensures that departmental decisions such as staffing, development, organization, hardware acquisitions, and facilities align with the organization's business plan and vision.
- Establishes, communicates, and implements engineering and development policies, practices, standards, and security measures to ensure effective and consistent operations.
- Maintains knowledge of emerging technologies and trends in engineering and development related to the organization's industry.
- Negotiates cost-effective contracts for the organization; coordinates and implements contractors' work, and resolves any disputes over labor, scheduling, or payments.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- Supervises department-level engineering managers/supervisors.
- Manages engineering and drafting vendors by producing requests for proposals, evaluating proposals, evaluating work, and expediting schedules.
- Recruits, interviews, hires, and trains engineering staff in the department.
- Oversees the daily workflow of the department.
- Provides constructive and timely performance evaluations.
- Handles discipline and termination of employees by company policy.

Education and Experience:
- A bachelor's degree in engineering and a P.E. are required.
- At least ten years of related engineering experience is required.
- Structural Engineer preferred.
- Experience managing engineers and drafters preferred.
Physical Requirements:
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Must be able to lift to 15 pounds at times.
