The LCSW or LMHC works as an integral part of the multidisciplinary clinics, and acts as a liaison between the child/family and physicians and other medical/therapy staff, in order to facilitate understanding of the child’s developmental needs and emotional, social, and behavioral functioning. Candidates must have an advanced knowledge of mental illness, personality development, knowledge of the types of treatment, and skills in conducting individual, group, and family therapy. Must have knowledge of adjustment to medical diagnosis' and chronic disease. Strong communication skills are needed to interact with patients, patient's family members, consultants, residents, hospital personnel, community agencies, and other resources.
Duties and Essential Job Functions:
- Conducts initial evaluations in order to assess current functioning, and assist in treatment planning and intervention.
- Provides individual therapy to youth diagnosed with chronic illness to address specific psychological disorders, to improve overall functioning and adjustment to medical condition, and to increase compliance with medical recommendations, in person AND/OR via tele-health.
- Provides family therapy to family members of youth with chronic medical conditions to support the care of these children in the home, decrease the likelihood of multiple placements, increase overall functioning and adjustment to family member’s medical condition, and increase compliance with medical recommendations.
- Provides psychological consultation regarding patients to physicians, medical staff, and therapy staff.
- Provides crisis assessment and intervention as needed.
- Coordinates care with other state agencies, schools, and behavioral health agencies, as needed.
- Maintains appropriate documentation of clinical evaluations and interventions.
- Maintains patient confidentiality and HIPAA compliance according to federal guidelines.
License or certification
Licensure (LCSW) or Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) to practice independently at the clinical level as required by applicable Florida state requirements.
Qualifications:
Experience and skill working with pediatric patients at risk for and/or diagnosed with neurodevelopmental disabilities, including Autism Spectrum Disorder.
- Ability to provide mental health assessments and therapy/counseling services to patients, treatment planning, brief therapy, trauma-focused, cognitive-behavioral, dialectical-behavioral or equivalent; monitor patient’s progress and the effectiveness of medication as directed by the physician
- Specialized training/experience with assessment and treatment planning Knowledge of diagnosis and treatment of mental health disorders. Advanced study of mental health assessment.
- Knowledge of regulations and laws relating to clinical psychology/social work practices.
- Ability to fill out and maintain client-related paperwork, including federal and state mandated forms, client diagnostic records, and progress reports and maintains confidentiality of patient records
- Knowledge of community mental health service delivery systems and other resources.
- Ability to work sensitively with variety of personalities.
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to communicate effectively with families, colleagues (e.g. physicians, psychologists, social workers, and other team members), community agencies, etc.
- Understanding of principles of legal documentation and medical records release of information.
- Counsels with patient and family and may involve community resources. May make home visits as needed
- Working knowledge of basic computer software programs: MS Office and EMR.
