We are currently seeking an experienced Inland Marine Underwriter to assess and underwrite risks associated with transportable property, including cargo, equipment, and other movable assets.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Risk Assessment: Evaluate the scope and nature of presented risks, taking into account factors such as the property's value, transportation mode, geography, and potential for loss. Assess the insured’s loss history and risk management practices.
- Underwriting: Analyze the insurability of risks according to company guidelines and appetite. Set premium rates that reflect risk levels and desired profitability. Negotiate policy terms and conditions with insured parties or their agents.
- Policy Issuance: Ensure accurate policy issuance, reflecting the agreed terms and conditions.
- Claim Management: Investigate and review claims to determine coverage and liability. Negotiate settlements and ensure timely, fair claim resolution.
- Policy Renewal: Review risk profiles and loss histories for renewal decisions. Adjust premiums or terms as needed.
- Market Analysis: Stay current on industry trends, economic conditions, and legal developments affecting the inland marine insurance market. Identify new business opportunities and develop targeted strategies.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- 5+ years of underwriting experience, specifically in inland marine or similar property sectors.
- Strong understanding of inland marine insurance principles, coverage options, and industry best practices.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with a detail-oriented mindset.
- Proven negotiation and communication skills.
- Ability to work autonomously as well as part of a collaborative team.
PREFERRED SKILLS:
- CPCU or ARM designation.
- Experience in property or casualty underwriting.
- Familiarity with the transportation and logistics industry.
