Job Description:
- This position is for a Mechanical Engineer to design, develop, simulate, analyze and release mechanical Components and Subsystems for Military Electro-optical products.
- This engineer will also develop and analyze component designs and mounting provisions for various devices.
- The areas of focus will include mounting of precise optical elements and subassemblies, developing electro-mechanical mechanisms used in sighting systems, developing various Fire Control sensors including Hand Controllers, Gyros, Accelerometers, Periscopes, Auxiliary sights, Muzzle reference sensors and others.
- Scope will also include simulation of various use cases as well as analyzing physical and functional effects of various inputs to a component or subsystem functional output.
- Design subsystems and components to meet vehicle performance requirements including human factors, safety, environmental and mine blast requirements.
- Conduct material selection/analysis and finish for commercial, military Electro-Optical system components, conduct detailed design of Electro-Optical custom components and generate key characteristics, component specifications and perform component selection for supplier purchased parts.
- This scope will also require analyzing the impact of modifying coatings and other opto-Mechanical features and the resulting impact on performance
- Lead various projects by conducting and overseeing analysis & design, drawing mark-ups, tolerance stacks and generating source data for engineering changes.
- Participate in integration reviews, fit checks, and write reports.
- Provide support to prototype and production vehicle build and follow-up, develop technical corrective action formulation, troubleshooting and lead redesign activities.
- Develop and Present design concepts and program status to functional and program management.
- Perform testing and evaluation of Electro-Optical components in the client's Electro-Optics Lab.
- Develop specific future concepts for SEOS hardware based on SME analysis of vehicle level general requirements.
- Provide support to teaming agreements as well as business development activities to support new advances Sights and Electro-Optics products which includes Independent Research and Development (IRAD) efforts.
- Ensure commonality/cross-leveling on Sights and Electro-Optics hardware and design approaches on all GDLS product lines.
Position Requirements:
- bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering.
- Advanced Degree highly desired
- 8 years of relevant experience (Sights and Electro-Optics desired).
- Less experience considered with Advanced degree.
- Be a self-starter and highly motivated. Experience with working on cross functional projects and working in a shop environment is required.
- Be experienced in working with teams and effective in communicating across many disciplines and functional organizations.
- Be able to understand customer needs, formulate subsystem and component requirements, and meet expectations.
- Experience with military vehicles, other heavy vehicle platforms or industrial applications of Electro-optics is desired.
- Experience with leading a team of engineers in developing/concepting. analyzing, and building Sights and other Electro-Optical subsystems and components
- Experience with mentoring younger personnel
- Solid modeling experience with NX and Creo and fluency with Teamcenter and Vis Mockup is strongly desired.
- Experience working with suppliers and our supplier quality organization, developing and auditing test requirements is desired
- Must have the ability to climb into military vehicles.
- Strong technical writing and presentation skills are desired.
- Ability to travel and work overtime when required
