A nonprofit client of ours is looking for a temporary Employee and Labor Relations Coordinator for a 6 month assignment. This role will be hybrid in NYC 3x a week and will pay $50-60/hr.
Job Description
The Coordinator, U.S. Employee and Labor Relations, will coordinate and support the
work of the organization's U.S. Employee and Labor Relations function, with a specific focus on
supporting active collective bargaining between the organization and labor unions who represent their staff. The individual in this role will report directly to the Senior Manager U.S. Employee and Labor Relations. [This is a TEMP position]
The ideal candidate is a self-starter with keen attention to detail who has experience facilitating and managing time-sensitive confidential projects that involve multiple stakeholders. The ideal
candidate has experience working in a unionized environment and is familiar with the operational
basics of employee and labor relations. The individual must have experience working discreetly on confidential projects, whether in a law firm, non-profit, or other setting.
This position will be based in New York City,. on a hybrid model of 3 days in office and 2 days
work from home. Covid-19 Vaccination is required for all U.S.-based employees.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Supports Senior Manager for Employee and Labor Relations and Senior Director of Human Resources for a variety of labor relations and employee relations functions;
- Attends all labor relations meetings and captures extremely detailed notes for all bargaining sessions, labor-management meetings, grievances, and other events. Corrects these meeting notes within a short turn-around period;
- Assists ER-LR team in analyzing union and management collective bargaining proposals and related internal or external information requests;
- Compiles and reports on ER-LR information from multiple sources (surveys, HRIS systems, etc.);
- Manages and coordinates accurate record keeping of labor and employee-relations documents, and maintains up-to-date bargaining unit lists and employee union designations;
- Participates in cross department meetings, and manages and facilitates necessary follow up;
- Assists the Senior Manager for Employee and Labor Relations with internal investigations, which may include preparing reports and/or summaries;
- Project-manages various existing ER-LR workflows (e.g., union hiring workflows), ensuring that all actions are correctly completed, including sending communications, recording the action(s), and liaising with internal staff to ensure accuracy after completion (e.g., Payroll, the Senior HR Project Manager, HR’s Talent Team)
- With guidance from the Sr. ER-LR Manager: drafting, updating, editing, and finalizing communications to internal or Union stakeholders;
- With guidance from the Senior Manager for Labor Relations: editing handbooks, policies, or procedures;
- With guidance from the Senior Manager for Labor Relations: request, compile, track, and occasionally amend job descriptions.
- Project-manages collaboration between HR and other stakeholders with respect to ER-LR and collective bargaining
- In collaboration with Payroll, project-manages dues authorizations and deductions for bargaining unit employees;
- Provides additional as-needed support on urgent or quick turnaround tasks;

- 5+ years of relevant work experience
- Demonstrated commitment to the mission
- Flexibility and ability to work professionally and confidentially in a fast-paced environment
- Fluency in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook; ability to quickly adapt to other database systems.
