Summary
Säzän Consulting Services (SCS) Team is seeking a dynamic, experienced, multi-tasking thought leader to join our multi-disciplinary team as a Sustainability Consultant.
Säzän Group, will be celebrating its 25th anniversary as a well-established, consulting engineering and services firm originally based in Seattle, WA, and now with offices located in Bremerton, WA, and Portland, OR, and Tempe, AZ and with satellite office in Bend, OR and Tucson, AZ. The majority of our work is in the Western United States and Hawai’i.
Responsibilities
Lead sustainability consulting services for complex projects from planning through post-occupancy. Many projects are pursuing a variety of green building certifications such as Evergreen Standard, LEED, Green Globes, WELL, ZNE and the Living Building Challenge.
Many clients, while not pursuing any sustainability protocol certification, are still interested in “doing the right thing.” Such clients require a unique, customized approach to establishing performance criteria relative to minimizing ecological impacts and optimizing systems performance and building occupant health, safety, and comfort.
With the guidance and support of senior staff, collaborate with owners and design teams to develop building strategies, track and report certification status, and drive certification to the finish line.
Analyze and prepare technical calculations related to the water use, energy use, air quality systems, waste management, etc.
Independently manage project deadlines and work schedule. Manage your time to stay on track with billable activities, within project budgets and time allocations, and project prioritizations.
Manage delegation and mentorship with junior staff members.
Contribute to marketing efforts to grow SCS Team’s industry leadership.
Contribute to fiscal management of projects.
Develop leadership skills and experience in anticipation of future leadership position.
Pursue relevant specialties, continuing education, additional credentials with support of the SCS Team.
Qualifications
Position requires 4-8 years of related professional experience providing sustainability protocol consulting for the built environment.
BA/BS in Architecture, Engineering, Construction, Environmental Studies, Business Administration, or equivalent training and experience.
LEED BD&C, LEED Homes, or EBOM, and/or WELL AP certified
Exceptional ability to convey complex topics to many audiences verbally, in writing, and electronically.
You are experienced and knowledgeable in the subject matter. Your work style is disciplined and organized. You are resilient and positive in a bustling professional environment.
You are proficient with common software technology tools used in the profession and can learn new tricks.
Physical Requirements
The employee will likely be required to sit at a desk and look at computer monitors for much of the day. Occasional lifting of up to 25 pounds may also be required. During site visits, it is possible that the employee would be engaged in the following activities:
Long periods of standing or walking.
Intensive stair climbing.
Climbing vertical or freestanding ladders, holding on to the top rung with one hand and lifting a ceiling tile or opening the roof hatch with the other, while carrying flashlights, tools, drawings, a camera, and/or other items.
Crawling over and under ductwork and piping in very cramped equipment utility rooms and mechanical mezzanines.
Using tools to open equipment access doors.
Walking on roofs, catwalks, and over parapets.
Looking at details at very close or far distances.
Listening and communicating in a loud environment.
Using computers or other electronic devices away from a desk.
